why does the car feel like so slow

like i posted in the other thread its like a dead ****en horse

with the mods in the sig im not expecting to run elevens but like the car is really not as fast as i thought it would be

i been through alot of cars and im not just throwing parts at it and expecting to make it fast

im taking the time asking a thousand questions before i do anything

but still like

it takes off decent but than it just pulls consistantly and doesnt speed up more like its hitting a wall

its at seventeen pounds only sees 93 octane but what else is ther left to do supposedly theres poeple on here that run like 12s with this setup but definately does not feel like a twelve second car

what else would help me out

but i dont want to cover the problem up with another mod i would like it to pull the way it should now
 
not yet but it really feels liek ****

i wanted to go yesterday but it rained so hopefully this week i can put some kind of time down i think like high thirteens the fastest if even that
 
its not gonna run 12s on 17 psi unless you launch the hell out of it and dead hook. The Te44/open exhaust appear to be the only power gaining mods you have. The other mods help it make its power, but at 17 psi you are maybe making 20 more hp than a stocker at 17 psi. What are your scanmaster numbers looking like? Id throw alky, and a duttweiler neck on it and run 24-25 psi. That would put you solidly in th bottom 12s. Right now its probably a 13.3-13.5 car.

But, with some patience and tuning (learning) I managed a best of 13.50
Until you get there and see what the car will run, you'll never quite know.
 
idk why im still kinda aginst alky

i dont like the idea of having to refill it

what hard parts should put down alot more power to the ground a good set of heads?


what kind of combination would get me into elevens

O so true had my car at the track last year for the first time ran a 14.6 at 98mph with a bad trans and smoking turbo fast forward 8 months a TA49 and trans and converter it went 12.86 at 105 on street tires with a 1.96 60' and an old SMC kit at 19psi so don't be discouraged get it to the track and get a base line and start frim their
 
if you are not gonna run alky and don't want to run racegas you are gonna need quite a bit to run 11s. With alky, a dutweiller neck, new valve springs, alky chip, and slicks you might be able to sneak into the 11s. Add ported heads and a small cam and you have my old combo that ran 11.45 at 117.8
 
going fast is more than throwing a bunch of parts at a car- there is always a bunch of tuning and a learning curve.
get to the track and see what you are running now, then work your way up to faster times.
yes, it costs money to do it that way, but you can also sell off your old parts as you upgrade to new stuff to help offset the costs of going faster.

I'd sooner refill an alky tank and tune then refill my motor with parts.
 
well forget the dut neck im gonna do a front mount and get it outta the way now so its there in the future and how often does a tank of alky need ne be refilled

does it go by how much you floor it and only kicks on at WOT

or it goes by boost

or rpm

and how much does alky usually cost per how much

i just want a nice daily driven street setup to shoot for elevens and liek i mentioned before

i know im not rushing nor throwing parts at the car and expecting it to go fast as i stated in the beginning of this thread

but i do have the time and a good budget for the car so im not really wanting this to drag on i want to get things done in order one goal after another consistantly

so

next recomendation would be front mount alky chip and alky kit?

and all the alky does is lower the temperature of the intake charge so i can raise more boost weich means more power?

would it be better to just do hard parts like cam and heads than do the alky or just throw the kit on first?

and how much does alky usually cost per how much - denatured at home depot is about $11 a gallon - I fill my bottle maybe once a month. A whole day of testing you might fill it up 2.5 times which is about a gallon and a half.

how much boost is that good for asking the wrong questions. you should be telling us how much and how fast and what you are going to buy

Alky is the cheapest engine insurance you can buy.
 
If you set up an alky kit and bump up the boost, and do nothing else, you are going to get more bang-for-your-buck increase than anything else you might do. And you don't even need to crack the motor.

THe other thing I would do if they are original is PUT SOME NEW VALVE SPRINGS IN THAT THING! DOn't mess with the cam, if it's not run flat. You don't need much cam in these cars. Don't pull the heads....until you have to.
 
The other option is to have 1/2 tank 93 octain and 1/2 E-85. You have to have 30 percent bigger injectors but it's alky and it's cheap.

wow lol im starting to feel more at home now with really good information being said and people opinion on my setup
weich kit do you guys recomend, lemme guess razors

and weich one is the only one pregressive or is that just the best one and what do i tell eric when i need to order the new chip

how much of an increase in boost can i raise it too after the alky or should i say the MAX?

where to tap it into the up pipe that goes into the throttle body?

what is it called exactly denatured alchahol?
 
Progressive is the newest technology.

Methanol or Denatured alky, meth is cheaper.

have the chip burned for 20 psi. You can always tune for lower or higher. He burns the chip so you don't have to mess with it, but you can if you want to.

You seem to be concerned with how much boost you can turn it up to. This is the last thing I would be concerned about at this point. Let's just say leave it at 18-20 and get used to the car. You are thinking waaaay ahead of your current issues.

I tapped the single nozzle right at the bottom side of the up pipe in the middle of the 90.
 
I'll post a picture of my alky set up....no one laugh. I was an OG SMC purchaser :biggrin:
