Like the title says, it's good insurance.;) This was a heat treated shaft that broke off just rolling into the throttle and right after the 2-3 gear change...26 psi of boost.

Let me guess you have a trans. brake in the car?? Unloading on that shaft day after day took its toll and it didn't help that it was welded a 1/2 inch from where it broke ....

The stock shaft could break at any time under power when behind a high torque engine. No t-brake required. Its garbage materials at its best.

I don't know much about your guys's motor but 26lbs sounds like alot. How much power are ya pushin/1/4 time?

Still curious.

Do you have a billet forward drum? billet OD carrier? Ring gear?

Also will a break like this wreck your converter?

Sorry I missed your question earlier. Never had it at a 1/4 mile track, only 1/8 mile. It was 2 days after I went to the track is when it broke. At the track the tranny worked perfectly. I did do about 5 or 6 transbrake launches, but at only around 5 psi. Any higher resulted in wheelspin. Still enough to shockload the drivetrain....I'm guessing it fatigued the shaft and finally let go.

It does have the billet drum, but I'm not sure about the carrier or ring gear. I'll assume at this point they are not billet. The tranny builder is gonna put in a billet shaft and freshen up the internals.

And yes something like this can definitely mess up your converter, especially since a few chunks of the shaft came out of the converter! I sent mine back to Pats Converters to inspect for damage and clean it out. A few of the fins were nicked but were repaired, and new clutch lining installed.
