The new Challengers look great, I loved 'em when they first came out, I liked them better than the Camaro's and Mustangs even though they were slower. It isn't lost on me that you can get an off the showroom floor every day cruising car that hits 10's, guys used to trailer full on stripped, tubbed and caged race cars that did that. But I guess my point is that its not just about fastest, otherwise I'd be rolling in clapped out, stripped Vega with some goofy crate big block and nitrous or whatever. I saw a decent looking mid 90's Viper the other day listed for 30k, those used to be top tier supercars, I guess they don't hold their value, didn't they used to be 80 grand or something?.

There's no doubt it is fast , but I haven't seen what the car does for 60' times . To me it looks like it comes out of the hole like a turtle ? I mean , weighing 4,500 lbs. how hard can it leave ? I sure the feeling is great to go 10's and 125 mph , but so is feeling 1.50 60' times .
The NHRA certified a 10.8 @ 126. The OEM's when promoting a new supercar manage to put ringers in the hands of the press. I know GM did for a fact from first hand experience. I need to see a show room new (original owner & run in) Hellcat turn a 10.8.
Agreed. We sold a ringer 01 ZO6 vette once that we believe was a media car. It had all kinds of extra markings on all different parts, like early production models. We bought it at a GM auction, but it was never titled. It had something like 10k miles or so, and brand new tires. There were several of us that drove this car vs other ZO6 vettes we had at the time and boy did this thing run in comparison. We never were able to prove anything, but this particular car def had a few extra ponies. I'm sure all the manufacturers do this. It's like having a 10 sec GN and running a 10 sec GN. If you read that your car does x, y, z, then you can tell your buddies that whether you are capable of doing it or not. And if you're not a racer, a 12 sec car will feel like a 10 sec car in your head.

Well one thing is that you probably won't know your up against a hellcat on the street. They are in more disguise than our regals are.

Wow !!!! Odd to have someone say that , I mean say they prefer the Charger over the Challenger , because I do/did . I bought a new 2009 Challenger R/T six speed , ran it bone stock , it went 13.67 @102 . Sold it 7 months later , just wasn't for me .Last year , bought a new 2013 R/T Charger , and have to say like it a lot more than the Challenger . Fully loaded with all the bells and whistles .
Word is , they are doing a Charger Hellcat model !!!!!!

I think the rule for cars newer than '08 is 10.0. It's arbitrary and it's bullshit, but I think it's10.0.
Again, I'm not quoting this as fact but here's what I found.
NHRA DRAGS: STREET LEGAL STYLE PRESENTED BY AAA (Page xiv) (5th paragraph)
Additionally Requirements and specifications for Street Legal are the same as
those for the Summit Racing Series with the following exception: Unaltered 2008
OEM model year and newer production cars running slower than 9.99 and 135
mph do not have to meet the requirements and specifications for the Summit
Racing Series except for the following: Convertibles and T-tops must meet
Summit Racing Series Roll Bar and Roll Cage requirements, All drivers must
meet the Summit Racing Series Helmet and Protective Clothing requirements.”

Nope. NHRA will allow it to run to 10.0 without a cage, just like the new Z06, ZR1, CTS-V, etc, or any factory hard top car 2008 and newer.

That's b.s. If they run that fast they should have a cage. Should be by speed period not, well he has more power, runs way more mph in the 1/4 mile,not
to mention street tires that don't grip as well as slicks or dr's, But its ok because his car is newer than yours!

I would take a new z06 too. Over any Mopar!
Drop a late model Challenger on it's top and do the same with a gbody and you'll see why they allow it. Crash standards for regular cars are more than enough to keep them safe at speeds in a wreck that old cars require a cage to survive. That's all NHRA is saying is that the new cars are safe enough to run as is. They also want more cars at the track, but the safety regulations on cars today are night and day different than what they used to be back in the 80's.
Airbags everywhere and huge ass A, B, and C pillars are the cage.
