Well, I am the new guy here, so hello to all. :) Here is my plan, I've been searching this board for days now and the olds board too. I have a 2004r I would like to improve upon. It is behind a 350 horse 350 chevy in my 'bu wagon. Has a 150 shot too. The last tranny was a smoked 2004r I put in just to get the swap done. I picked up a good stocker out of a chevy caprice wagon. So this is what I was thinking. BTW, trying to get a D5 GN converter, or an aftermarket 2200 stall.

1) Shim the 1-2 accumulator with a 3/4" shim and go from there.
2) Shim the 3-4 accumulator with a 3/8 shim and go from there.
3) I made a pin to block the main bias valve.
4) Shaved the small weight of the governer, took out the small spin on
heavy weight. Will adjust from there.
5) I have a seperator plate diagram and will drill the hole to 1/8 inch. I think
there were three, using the TCI/art carr/B&M (which one?) transpak
intructions.
6) Remove the TV exhuast spring. (what exactly does this do?? )
7) Made a 1.5mm shim for the pressure regulator spring (can I get a stiffer
spring, and from where)

8) Remove MTV spring
9) Check balls, should I remove some??
different kits say remove different ones??
10) Shim the TV spring, (but by how much?Or get a stiffer one, but where?)
11) Bigger TV and low/reverse boost valves
12) Modify the servo. But what does taking out the cusion spring, and
removing the seal from the outside of the inner piston do??
Also gonna
plug the pin hole. (planning on getting a 200 servo) Should I do any
other mods to the servo?

Sorry guys, I know this is long winded. I got most of this info from this site. THANKS  But I want to be sure this is good to do before doing it. If yous think anything is wrong with this plan, please lemme know. Thank you all.

Most Of Those Mods Are Nonsense.spend The 65 On My 200 Page Book And Do It Right.all The Theory And Tech Is Explained As Well As Step By Step Photos.of Course You Cna Try Your Mods And Note Results But I Think You Not Be Making Efficient Use Of Your Time.

Chris, is there a link on your web site for the book?? I think I'll pick that up soon. I want to rebuilt the old 2004r for behind the BBC in my Elky. I'm just trying to get the stocker in my wagon to shift firmer, and at a higher RPM than what it is now. It only has the 350 horse 350 in it, with the occasional shot of gas. I saw that a majority of the "shift kits" on the market do some combination of the stuff I listed, really wanted to know about the servo though. Thanks

Any other thoughts, anybody??? Like I said. Most of this info I compiled from searching these boards but I need some input on those few "grey" areas I have highlighted. Thank again.

Chris, which ones are nonsense?? If the tranny was out of the car and I didn't need it I would build it up right. I have a tranny on the floor that is going to get build up. Just want to firm/quicken the shifts up on this stocker.

Thanx

If you want to firm up shifts on the stocker, the first thing you need is a decent servo. The larger area will firm up the stock trans and is needed to keep the band alive.

Next you need to increase orifice size for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th feed.

Setup the 3-4 accumulator like a stock GN, this will provide relatively firm shifts into OD, especially with a slightly enlarged feed.

You can block the 1-2 accumulator, but this may be overly harsh for a stock or near stock converter.

If you are doing the proper mods for good line pressure, the shifts will follow. Install and upgraded PR spring and larger boost valves.

Thanx for the info Jake. I'm not going to block of the 1-2 accumulator all together 'cause I won't have a real high stall conver. Looking to get a th200 servo this weekend from the local pick-a-part. If not, the I'll get a new servo. I saw PST had a line pressure kit with the monster bosst valves, and a stiffer spring w/the piston, Ithink it came with a billet servo too. I'll have to get that at a later date though, wifes out of work for maternity leave. Can't spend too much dough. So I'll just shim the spring a bit and mod the seperator plate for those you said. Thanx again. :D O, what about the things I asked about the stock servo, removing the teflon and the inner spring?? What is that good for??

I see you're in PA

I have a couple tranny's you might be interested in

1st tranny came from my POS GN back in 99-I had it rebuilt by a local GN owner who also has his own tranny shop

I put $600 into it only to find out its not a Turbo Buick trans--maybe Monte SS

anyway it has a trans-go shift kit, hardened sunshell and stator, 10vane pump, I think red clutches and the .050 or is it .50 boost valve

this trans never worked right for me-fullthrottle shifts were 3500rpm and not firm enough for my taste-part throttle shifts were nice and firm
was only in car for for 1000mi-that was just driving to work-gave up on trying to get speed out of it

redstripe converter with 1000 mi

also have a D-5 converter from 84 GN

stock 2004r from the 84 GN--got water in the valvle body from sitting outside in the rain

you could pull the guts from the rebuilt 1 and put them in the 84 GN trans

$900 for all

Get a BRF, CZF, or KZF core to start with. Make sure you get the largest servo you can. Buy Chris's manual and pay attention to it. Shimming the accumulators wont do much if your line pressure is crap (like in a low perf trans like any other than what i listed) It will beat up parts if everything else is up to par. Get a shift kit from Chris and have fun. Make sure you get the big 200C servo. There not all the same.

I've got a BRF valve body and a complete BQ trans with billet forward drum, 3 clutch OD, etc.

I'm about to pull the BQ out of the Chevelle to replace with a 4L80E.

I'd love to pick some of these things up, but I just had a new baby, third kid now, ( oldest 2 are 13 and 11), so I'd like to improve upon what I have. I was looking on Chris' site for the manual, but didn't see a link. Chris, I guess I have to contact you directly?? This is pretty much why I wanna improve upon what I have, the easier inexepensive mods, for right now. After the summer I'll build the spare up, or if yous guys still have this stuff I'll pick it up.

I was looking into getting the TH200 servo, or a GN servo. But in some of those shift kits they say to remove the inner spring and the seal off the inner piston. Should I?? What would it do??

Should I remove some of the check balls like the TCI/Art Carr kits say too??

I have a D5 converter coming, so that'll give me more stall than the D6 that is in it now.

Thanx again guys. This site is great for tranny info. :)
