For some reason the guy I bought my car from changed the gears to 3:90s
I have to shift into 4th at about 1000 ft w/275 50 15 BFG DR (26"tire)
Best time so far 11.4 at 118 ,1.74 60ft . Do you think I would be able to
get away with just going to a 28" or put 3:42s back in it? I want to stay
in 3rd at the end of the 1/4,thanks

I like the 3.42's becuase you can get some high speed out of them without overreving your engine. But if it is for tack purposes only I guess it doesn't matter

The 3.90s are ok with a taller tire 28 and above and if you plan on reving the motor over 6K. Change tires first and then gears if you still need to.
The 28s with the 3.42 work great so either way you will not loose money.
The trend with smaller tired turbo cars is smaller gears IE below 3.6.

I'm going 117, not locking converter, with 3.42's and 275-50-15's. Was thinking about going to 3.08:1 rear gear. Needed some new street tires and waent with 275-60's. The taller tire seems to bite better but have not been to the track with them. Do not know why one would want more gear with these cars.

I would put the 3.42 back in the car. I had a 4.11 in my stock block car when I bought it. I have put the 3.42's back in the car. Car pulls harder much longer not to mention more mph. I would try as stated above going to a taller tire first then if your not happy change gears.

f-body here but turbo'd none the less. I ran 10.16 with 3.73 and 10.12 with 3.23 so basically a wash as the turbos LOVE the load of the 3.23. Of course 3.23 gets better gas mileage. My advice, go to 3.42s
