Im looking into a new turbo. was thinking pt54 then saw for the same price the pt61
The car isnt street driven much and dont street race. Will this turbo spool at the track..
Will also be stepping up to 72's and slicks for next season.

hmmmmm, my buddy has a stock longblock TTA and a 2800 stall 12 inch pro-torq converter and it spools great. he said he tried a 54 for a day and it took way longer to spool. like 30 ft or so till full boost. if the 61 is bigger id say stay away from it unless you plan on a converter. he did comment that the 54 was much fun on the highway though, good top end.

Well anyone w/ the new pt-61 and what stall do you have . How do you like this turbo. I can get any orange stripe conv. to put in. Thanks

I ran a PT54 with a 2800 stall 12" d5 for a couple of years, and it was laggy. Launching with less than 4 psi, the boost wouldn't pass 10 psi until about 30 feet out then it would flash on up to 22-24 psi, just before the 1-2 shift. My brakes would hold about 7 psi boost but the nitto drag radials wouldn't and I never tried with slicks. The PT61 is available with three different turbine wheels. You can get the GT350 76 trim so it is comparable to a PT52, the to4e 69 trim so it is comparable to a PT54, or a to4e P trim so it is comparable to a TE62. In each case the GT61 compressor wheel should spool a little quicker than the 60-1 in each of the old turbos. Personally I would recommend the P trim for the most power, and step up to a 9/11 3000 stall converter. I don't think you will be happy with the P trim and a 2800 stall, but you might be okay with the 69 trim or if you really want spoolup and don't want to change converters get the GT350 turbine.

The 54 is similar to a 62 in size.

Both require 3200-3500 stall range.

My TA62 worked okay with a 3200 stall Protorque lockup.

61 should work okay with an orange stripe if it holds up to the power.

Thanks for the input guys. I think the club has a meeting in a couple weeks at ans and PTE might be there. I'll talk with patrick somemore on this subject. If anyone else has the 61 chime in. Thanks again/ Rich.
