Lee/Brick... our local track is running really low on attendance for there wed and fri night "street" nights .. some nights 30 or so cars .. I hope they make up some of it ($$$$$$) on the sat/sun programs .. really sad the way things are goin here because of the "economy" .. ... oh ya... Buicks are a dying breed.. Lots of new people coming in .. Damm I am old  :p

I drove 500 miles just to kick a members teeth in but I couldn't find him so I turned right back around. :(

j/k

I see a trend in more spectators leaving cars home. I think it's great to support the event by spectating, but we need cars there also.

I had a great time there and when you are racing the car count is the furthest thing from your mind so I didn't notice who was where, but I hope we see more guys come out and this isn't the beginning of the end.

All the BPG officials did a great job BTW.

I really hope it doesn't get to the point where you see tracks closing down as a result of the way things are going with economy.:( As these Buicks get older I think a good number of the people that own them are more likely to let them sit in the garage and just take them out for the occasional car show rather than race them like they used too. Now with the Barrett Jackson crap, I'm sure there are also those that are wanting to "tuck them away" in hopes of one day getting big $$$ from some rich dudes that have more money than common sense.

I am so glad I built mine for street duty. C16, gas for the truck, food to eat, etc. One day at the local track costs me $500. People have to be really mindful of what they are building, and if they can afford the upkeep on such high performance applications. I love to watch and read up on the successes of other members that have some really fast Buicks. You die hard guys make the sport. But I don't have the time(2 young kids and a wife) nor the $$$$ to be throughing at my car every time I take it out. My local track is 1.5 hours away from my house to warrant a trailer queen in my garage that can only see the track. Its sad whats happening to Motorsports in general with gas prices and these retarded laws for speeding. We finished having our Pinks All Out event at the track 2 weeks ago and the cops were giving tickets to cars a block before the track. Cars on trailers with valid licence plates were also getting tickets for intent. You can't win for being responsibe anymore:mad:

Didn't happen. No Shane, no twin car for him, no red tso car for his customer. I was impressed by how many racers were there by 11 am Friday, at least 50 and maybe 65+. However, that count didn't go up much on Sat and not much more on Sun, and not much local spectator turnout for Sunday. My guess is maybe 90-100 cars there to race Sunday, and very few people there like me just to spectate. The first 2 bpg's at Salem seemed to be 85+% v8 cars but I think the turbo v6's are up to about 50% now. I had a good time and I think the turnout was enough to keep the event out of the red, which given the economy and fuel prices was no sure thing. They sprayed the track before each round of qualifying and before eliminations and all the staff were great. Some racers, like Ted, had traction issues all weekend but others, like Jim Rock, were on the wheelie bars with too much grip most passes. The air was best on Sun and in eliminations most racers seemed to have the traction figured out. With Dave F broken and Ted fighting for traction, tso et's were way off the pace from Norwalk. However, in tsm, Don Cruz and Jason W both ran 9.3's which was basically equal to the best et's at Norwalk. The q16 bump was 10.16 the last I heard, so overall the fields were as fast as could be hoped for. Do I miss the days of 6-8 mid 8 sec GN's in q16 at similar events (Whitter, Cherry, Anderson, Borelli, Peterson, Ski, Bernard, Rankin, etc)? You bet. Am I building one myself? No :-). See you in October at Cecil.

Thanks for the great report from the event Carl! :)

The Nats attendance was a down a bit but I've always seen summer events draw fewer and fewer racers and spectators. I know I personally have avoided all summer time races due to the cost of traveling. I"ll focus on more races when the cooler weather gets here, when racing is more enjoyable. The heat gets to everyone sitting in the stands and sitting in the car.....the track gives up a lot of bite for those guys running on small tires like TSM and TSO.

We have a beat the heat race at night in August and attendance for that race is twice as high as a day time event.

The street twin kit is done and I was coming. Problem was when we started it we found I had damaged the bottom end of the car. At that point didn't have time to switch motors... It is done though:biggrin:

Customers car you referred to would be the Gbody car I assume? It was ready too, Brian decided not to go for personal reasons.... It has a new Extreme trans, PTC converter, and some BWR secret stuff done to it:biggrin:

Had all intentions of going but that was a LONG ride to go watch again:tongue:

Car count was down, but so was BG from what I hear. Some had cars that were broken, others didn't want to spend the extra travel money, and who knows whether next year will be better. Overall we were pleased with the turnout however, and grateful to those who did attend. We are already looking at options for next year, and any suggestions are welcomed.

I had fun and met some nice people.

Racing at events does get pricey. Even though I am only 2 hours from NTR, it still cost me over $600 to race. Thats gas to and from (split with a friend), hotel, race gas and racing supplies, race entry, food and beer. For me, especially right now being slow at work, $600 is a lot of money. I can see why attendance is down at these events. It sure has me thinking of attending and competing in the local outlaw street car race instead of going to the next event in a few weeks.

It's the economy, people just don't have the extra pocket money they had a few years ago......when you factor in that you are paying 100$ or more a month just to drive to work, groceries prices on the rise, rising health care costs, rising sale taxes, property taxes climbing........the play time money just isn't there.....wish like hell I had a solution.

The kit is done. Unfortunately so is the bottom end of the car we used for a test bed.

I'll be happy to post some completed pictures if you like.
