I am getting my tranny redone because my whopping 100 hp blew it up somehow.

Is there any issues with running a restalled d5? Is it worth spending the extra money on something else? Pats? who do you guys recomend?

Does anyone run a 3000 stall for daily driver? Or should I go with a 2800? I have a Ta60 going on.

Car is 100% street car.

I know these are stupid questions but I wanted other opinions...

3000 would be best, something with LOCKUP and anti-ballooning plates and a decent clutch.

Like a Pats, Protorque, Billet 9x11, Vigilante, etc.

I have a 3000 stall single disk Vigilante and it works great in my GN 3 season driver with a PTE51 turbo.

I have a 3200 Protorque 10.5" in the WE4 and it's also my winter driver and 4 season car when the GN is getting worked on car either has a TA62 or a double BB GT70 turbo. ;)

I notice the 3200 stall a little more than the 3000 but it's not objectionable, I myself wouldn't go any higher stall for a daily.

No other cars here but a non-running '67 Buick Riviera.

Lockup is important to me for a street car.

Just my .02.

I used an AC 9" NL 3000 stall on a daily driver for several years. The key to keeping it and the trans alive was a large trans cooler.

I run TE-60 and Pat's 3400-10" and can't tell difference from prior 2800-12" on street. Take off at any boost level is a different story. Call Pat's and talk with them.:D

I've run a 2800 l/u, 3000 n/l & l/u and now a 3200 l/u.
There are no real drivability issues with the bigger stall. The only thing I noticed is you will have to give the car a little more pedal to get it to move from a stop, but it's a minor difference and not really that noticable.
The other thing is if you have the money get a better converter than a restalled d5 (orange stripe). I switched from a orange stripe to a 3000 stall 9/11 and it was a huge difference in spoolup and drivability from the same stall d5.

Ok I am kinda leaning towards a 10 inch Pat's...
mostly due to price...

I have heard that a 10' will not survive long with a daily driver on freeways and city driving. I drive 250 miles a week...

Not true?

i run at TA 60 with art carr 9 inch 3,500NL and my car likes it, hazes the tires at will.. and i can build about 12psi of boost on the streets using the brakes..

I run a 2800 lockup, but I hear if you spend the money, a 3500 stall will work about the same on the highway...and if I had the money, I would upgrade to one so I could build more than 4# of boost @ the line!

Go with a 3000, L/U, small diameter converter. It will be the best mod you will have done to your car. The stocker is a waste of time to redo on a tranny rebuild IMO, its heavy and has a much lower K number.

Trans temps are what will kill a trans regardless of what converter you run. If you are worried, install a trans temp gauge and run atleast 1 big tranny cooler. If the temps hover over 200 during highway driving, install ANOTHER tranny cooler inline and get the temps even lower.

i would just buy the Orange stripe convertor, they are cheap and have a large lockup disc- im sure you can still get them thru the club.

i drive a 87 limited with a 9/11 convertor everyday, it stalls around 3500 and i drive it like it was normal. once it locks up, its just like a stock D5 convertor, low RPMs.

i almost wish i hadnt spent all the money on the 9/11, when i could have just purchased the orange crush / orange stripe for about half the price.

if you ever upgrade to a larger turbo, just buy a RJC bleeder valve and that will allow the bigger turbo to spool up alot quicker
