Are Vans shoes decent?

I need a casual shoe for weekends and evenings, something to walk around in and be a little active. Running shoes look like ass beyond exercising IMO and boat shoes or loafers are not great for semi-physical activity.

I bought some Vans and they look decent but remind me alot of Keds or Chuck Taylors without the front white cap. They look ok, black uppers and white soles. They really seem thin on the sole and have very little padding but they do grip quite well. I won't be getting on any skateboards though these are usually thought of for that culture.

Just wondering if anyone else has worn them. I can take them back but for now I kind of like them. I wonder if they last worth a crap and are comfortable.

Vans were my shoe of choice back in my BMX days in the eighties. I came real close to purchasing a pair of checkered Vans in Nashville on Saturday but they didn't have my size. I can't comment on how comfortable they are these days but they are still on my radar to get a pair for bumming around.

My son has worn Vans for years...buys them from Zappos. Great return policy if you don't like. He can destroy shoes in short order in his line of work.

If your feet don't require much arch support, they're great. I wore out many pair back in the day.

I wore them for a couple of days. They're just ok. Real thin on the bottom. Like Mike said, I think I am going to need arch support inserts but I put those in my Doc Martens also so no biggie.

I wear both vans and docs, lol, and they're both great to me. Can't complain whatsoever. And I'm a pretty anal guy.
