 Long story short, we broke the dif. in the 9" at the track last weeked. Overnighted a new Detroit Locker and noticed there were some differentsess in mine and the new one. We called the 800# to Detroit locker, tolded them what was going on and after some investigation of my unit, it was a Chinese knock off. It came with the 9" when I bought it. It even had EATON/DETROIT on the diff. If you didnt have a real one sitting next to it, you wouldnt know it was fake. It has been in the car for 3 years but i just started using the transbrake last year at Renolds, so it only made 15 TB passes before it broke.

LOL that is just about what happend to. They are both cone shaped but the real one is sealed up, cant see in side it like the fake one.

Yes I got it from a member on the board. But I am going to leave it as if he didnt know. I dont think he would have knowing what i was going to do with it.

This should give you some idea of what chineese parts are worth. Killed an engine because of it.

They have copied everything...

I know a guy that ordered like 50 golf club drivers. They sold for like $500 a piece new, the real ones, and he paid like 15-20 bucks for them and sold the squat out of them telling people they were fake:eek:

This is why we are in this spot now! Everone is too cheap to pay for a quality piece. We by junk because it's less expensive then bitch when it breaks or just go by another piece of crap. Consumerism at it's best. Years ago you could buy a quality piece and it would last or it was rebuildable. We cannot blame China, they just want to make money. We have to blame ourselves for not chosing to buy American or an imported item that is quality. You name it from cars to furniture to even food we have swallowed the Walmart "buy more for less" mentality. Personally I don't want want MORE I want BETTER. I still try to buy USA but it's more and more difficult to find. Visually the knock offs are getting harder to spot but even the "brand" names are turning into China. One thing that eventually will happen though (it already is starting) is the workforce in China will demand more money for working. They want to buy stuff too. China itself wants it's people to buy it's own products to more self sustaining and less export dependant. So when China labor is not such a cheap commodity they will eventually move to more backward countries. African countries are on that list. Buy American when you can...

I have been aware of it for sometime now but have been treating it like id theft.. ya know.. "oh that want happen to me". But this one slipped in on me. I try to buy Amarican when I can.

How can I tell if I am buying quality parts online though? Can someone tell me how so I don't screw up?

Yep. The rods were made in china. Not a pretty sight.

Was there another problem? My buddy's bbc looked like that after an oiling problem. His high dollar rods looked like pretzels too. If the rod bearings sieze up, there is not much hope for any rod.

We're guessing but it looks like one of the rod bolts broke. K1 quality at work.

All the K1's I've seen had arp bolts, which are made here I do believe.

??? The bolts were the same color as the rods. Kinda silver. Does ARP make ones that look like this? If you look carefully you can see the one I suspect in the pan.

I'm posting from my phone right now and can't see the pics that close up. Arp's will say arp on them.
