It has been suggested to me that I should put an ORANGE STRIPE Buick club converter in my car to achieve my mid 11 second 1/4 mile goals. ALthough I am still researching it before making a decision. How or Where do actually get a BUICK CLUB converter ???

How - Join the GSCA and then order it through them.

I have an orange stripe in my car now. I like it, but I don't love it. I will be upgrading to a higher stall and 9" or 10" very soon.

From what I hear, these big converters can tear a tranny up when you are starting to make good power. The 9-10" converters have less rotating mass, therefor a little easier on the hard parts.

Hope this helps. I got the orange stripe because of the price.

Thanks for the reply.. A buddy of mine has a Precision Industries multi disk in his mid 11 second car and loves it. He said it was a HUGE GAIN In ET .. He said it might be overkill for what hes doing, But I have learned over the years in my race cars that you are always better to OVERBUILD...

i just put on a pat's 10" lock up on my car and it feels like a different car. great converter. $495 for the converter.

Thanks guys. Im seeing where 2800 seems to be the popular choice for these cars to run down into the mid 11s ...

I see guys saying they cannot build boost on the foot brake with stock stall. MY car builds 10 lbs before it pushes through the brakes. I removed my tranny inspection shield and the converter looks to be the full size stock deal. Any specific markings or characteristics to be sure ?? A few of these bolt on mods were done prior to me buying the car and Im not sure about the converter..

Also, is there a way to figure what its stalling now, without driving and seeing where the tach flashes to.(thats pretty broad and not accurate). With my race car I just take out the 2 step chip and get it up on the transbrake. But thats not an option here...

Thanks for the replies and help..

FWIW, I used the orange stripe converter with my combo last year. I was running a .030 over 109 block, 210-205 flat tappet cam, TE60 turbo with a garrett .63 exhaust housing, Precison Stock Loc. I/C, 60lb motrons, rjc power plate, 3" downpipe, stock freshened heads (not ported either), stock intake, stock TB.

The best my car ran was 11.30's @ 119mph leaving with about 6psi boost, running 23psi thru the run. I was locking the converter at WOT, but I know that was probably going to kill it so Im buying another converter. Probably a 9.5 or 10" unit.

If you want to lock it, go ahead and get the Vigilante 5 disk and be done with it. I had an orange stripe in my car and wouldn't buy another one. Get a 9.5 or 10 inch converter and you will be happy.

I used 3 different Orange Stripes back in the day.
They were OK at best. 2 failed, and one was in the car for a few years. For the money, get a nice 10in as a few others have already said. It would be $$$ well spent for $150-$200 more.
For what it is worth... I would look at a PTC from Dusty or West Coast Converter from Bill @ WCC. My Pat`s is a slippery b*tch at the track. Although it is very nice on the street.
