SignUp Now!Got it to come down finally. Had to use both the top port as well as the bottom port. Will make around 10 lbs like that wide open. So I can use my boost controller on my top port to shut off the vacuum going to it to get a little more boost out of it. Thanks for all the replies an help!
Please explain how you are achieving vacuum on top of the gate under boost.Hotrodbuick said:I used the top port by putting vacuum to it. It must be just enough vacuum to keep the boost down enough to not need alky.
Guy, Remember your original combination was with a smaller turbo & warmed over stock engine. You now have a much bigger turbo & a stroker motor hence more exhaust flow & a major change in the combination. Second problem is any external waste gate can seize from corrosion even the most expensive. Even though that GN-1 downpipe was going on two years old Archie bent over backwards to help make it right. He is aware of some problems & working on a redesign so I wish you would check with me before you post things like this. There is a lot of R&D that goes on with the vendors that supply these parts that we are fortunate to have. The T/H style D/Pipes which have also evolved aren't always available either. Sometimes you have to work with what currently was as in your case. The point is when you bash vendors it serves no purpose except to discourage progress to solve these problems. Before any of these aftermarket D/P were available I use to build my own. It took eight hours of labor to cobble something together that would work . Thats why I appreciate the fact that I can now buy something that sometimes not perfect i can at least work with to get the car out the door. Your car is now fixed & the combination brought up to date so it works. So I'm giving you a shut up stupid & don't drink & post !If it was the same one I had, unbranded, cheap Chinese Tial knockoff, came with the DP. Sure does look the same.

Hotrodbuick said:I'm not sure how it works with the top port putting vacuum to it but it does help it out a whole lot. But I also know that for vacuum brake conversion you buy the new top part where the vacuum lines go and pull vacuum from there to make them work. So if the vacuum brakes work from the top while under boost or driving around town I don't see why it wouldn't do the same to help pull the waste gate open. I used the vacuum port that goes to the canister on drivers side as it seems to have more vacuum then the port for egr, I tried both and that one seems to open the waste gate better. Does this make any sense bison? I know in theory it shouldn't make vacuum under boost but then why does vacuum brakes work with changing the top ports?
Lou,
First, I wasn't bashing, as I said in my first post. I am accutely aware the effort and hours you and Archie expended to get my car right, but as you discovered after many hours of agonizing over the original downpipe combo, it just wasn't gonna work out.
Second, I posted up the solution you came up with as a suggestion for ROBZOMBIE to try if he couldn't get the current setup to work.
Thirdly, You have been, and continue to be one of the most genuine, staight foward no BS business owners I have ever met and I respect and admire you for it. I also am proud to consider you a friend. You've been nothing if not honest, kind and fair to me. You're a tough nosed mentor and I appreciate those qualities.
As to the "So I'm giving you a shut up stupid & don't drink & post !" If you look at the times of my posts, they were made during WORK HOURS, times when:
A. When I'm at work and jump over to TB.com for a little diversion , I don't have alot of time to tell a story, so most times it becomes the Readers Digest version, as was the case here.
B. I made an effort not to point out any particular vendor and didn't "bash" anyone in my post. I merely gave ROBZOMBIE an alternative to try if he saw fit.
C. I don't drink at work, so that bullshite was thoroughly uncalled for. We will talk about that in person.
This particular situation has been the one of the very few instances where you and I have disagreed on how the approach to a solution should be taken. I had one thought process that has been developed by my experiences as both a customer and a service/product supplier in some highly stressful atmospheres, and you had yours. Yours being approach it gently instead of with a full head of steam. In the end it worked out well for all and, as you know, I am extremely happy with the outcome.
There are many opinions, points of view and approaches out there as to the sharing of information on this board.
In this instance I respectfully request that we both agree to disagree and then just leave it alone from here on out, never to be mentioned on the board again.
Shut up stupid citations are my trademark & cannot be used against me. As with any other disagreements we may have my opinion is always right but will extend the courtesy of listening before I ream you![]()
