So last night driving back to Baton Rouge from Mardi Gras in New Orleans my car starts smoking. I pulled off on an exit and now theres fire coming from under the hood. I sat on the side of the road and watched my car burn down. Brand new interior, weather strips, body work, tires, head work, ect. Im wondering what I did to deserve this kinda karma. Gonna take some pictures this afternoon at the wrecking yard.

Anyone need any parts off a fire car?

wow... that sucks ... anything left to rebuild ?? fires burn FAST  .. really
not a lot you can do on the side of the road .. good luck with your ins company

Damn that suks! I'm going to hell too. I burned my first hot air 84 T-Type Riv to the ground too. But at least I can point the finger at me for my own stupidity. It was Monday night on my way home from work. Saturday morning I swapped injectors so I could race on Sunday. Spent all day Sunday at the track. On the way home from work I smelled raw gas. Pulled over and found gas pooled on the intake runners by the FPR. The damn seal was leaking on the FPR! I was about a half of a mile from the house and my tool box. I didn't make it. About 200 yards from the house it went up in a ball of flames. Took the fire dept 4 minutes to get there. It really wasn't that bad. Just everything forward of the firewall. The dash got a little hot from the smoke. The killer was when the FD hosed down the interior with a 3" hose and pryed open the trunk with a crow bar. I didn't have full coverage and I thought I could break even parting it out but my buddies on the dept F'd me on that idea. The only parts that were good enough to use again was the leather steering wheel, 3 of the alloy wheels and the drivetrain. It was weird when the wiring melted and the fuel pump kick on and fuel was being dumped on the fire. That and the horns going full blast until the battery died.

Sorry to hear about your car catching fire. I was nearly in the same boat a couple of years ago when I caught my engine on fire. Luckily a fire extinguisher was close by.

I now carry an extinguisher in the trunk at all times.

I'd probably be in tears and scarred for life if I watched my GN go up in flames.

Take Care!

Man, than sucks!
Sorry to hear.
Ever determine the cause of the fire?

If you want to see the rear x-braces, PM me with a price.
Too bad the T-top glass did not survive.
What condition are the DS B-pillar trim in?

If anyone wants to buy anything off of it let me know. The trans should still be good. It was built be Len Freeman in Vegas. Has a Hooker 2 1/2 cat back exhaust. Wheels and 3 tires are still good. rear end still good. Turbos good for a shell, innerds prolly need to be replaced. rear seat braces look good. Ive also got a brand new set of headers w/crossover, a 3" downpipe that never made it on the car, and a gasket matched intake. As far as the motor I think the short block would still be ok, forged rods and pistons. The crank should be alright too. Anything else send me a PM.

U have PM on DP, headers and rear.

How far from NO is the car now? I'm living in the city through the end of the summer, wondering what you might need to get out of the whole car as it sits.... assuming you'd be interested and the title hasnt been branded yet. Fire is bad, but not as bad as rust where I grew up.

i can't tell from the pics, but is the chin spoiler on the front still good? how about the trunk spoiler?

I've got a spare 83 that I'm not using right now if you want to try again? It's an na with a little rust under the deck but the rest of is sound and runs. I'm about 30 miles north of Waco.

Chin spoiler looks ok, deck lid spoiler has minor rust on the bottom edge where it meets the deck lid but it looks like it didnt get warped in the heat.

what a sick horrible feeling it must've been to have to watch your pride and joy burn to the ground and not able to do nothing about it. i used to always carry one of those small fire extinguishers like you can get at parts store or walmart in my glove box years ago. i stopped because i just figured its only adding weight, whats the chances of me ever needing one? i'm going to go buy one for both my gn's tommorow. really sorry for your loss.

I would be interested in Hooker 2 1/2 cat back exhaust, Wheels, and down pipe. let me know how much to 91406. "I would be very sad if that happened to me!"
Hope everybody is ok and you recover from this. Good luck! Luis.

sorry to hear about your loss on a car fire.

about 13 yrs ago i lost a vehicle in a car fire. I had just got my license and my bossman gave me a 1983 dodge rampage ( a mini el camino) for my 16th birthday. It was day 3 of ownership i had went to get some dinner for the guys at work and i had stopped at the stopped sign and the car shut off and wouldn't start back and then i saw smoke form under the hood. i imediatly popped the hood and there was a small fire at the back of the engine. Well being 16 and scared ****tless @ the time i was less than 150 feet from the fire dept so i ran up to the fire dept tring to get some help. well that day there had been some real bad woods fire over @ dave mountain and there was not a fire trucks there. all the few fireman that were there standing by had was a few fire extingushers. so i watched my little truck burn to the ground in front of the fire dept.

I'm now a volunteer/paid firefighter for that dept.

You know you will never forget hat smell either and will always remember that smell from this day on.

I'm just glad no one was hurt in this incident.

I always carry a fire extingusher with me in my gn.

What ever kind of car I end up getting to replace the GN will definatly have a fire extinguisher in the passenger compartment. Mine was in the trunk and I couldnt get to it in time. When I got back up front to hit the hood latch I burned my hand and couldnt get it open. Lesson learned.
