I went to the GM Auto show in Motion yesterday and drove the crap out of a couple of the Chevy SSR's...I used the SUV/Truck track more like a performance track..was very impressed with its power and handling and interior....just wondering how it would tow a 3000 lb boat or my GN on trailer??...its bigger than an Extreme but not as big as my Silverado, probably built on the Colorado mid-size truck frame.
I figure if a Jeep Cherokee can tow the GN/trailer the SSR could...now if the price would come down..mid $30k for a used one and $40-45k for a new one will keep me from getting one anytime soon.

As for the other cars, drove a manual Vette, auto Vette, manual GTO, a supercharged Cobalt, and a BMW 325. The Vette's were fun and alot more powerful than the 2000 Vette I drove before..but the course was too small, 20 secs you were done..but I did get it sideways a bit and burned the tires off at about 30 mph coming out of a turn :) GTO was unimpressive probably because the wimpy course..the BMW was a pos. Cobalt was ok for a little 4 banger, got it up to about 10 psi, but was still lacking power.
They did have a new Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky on display, awesome looking car and a supercharged version will be out in the Spring!

I have an '05 Colorado Xtreme and I towed my Buick from St. Louis to DC on a tow dolly. I had no problems. I was proud of my truck! Kept it at 55mph when I was in the hills of Pennsylvania but I was towing it at around 70mph the rest of the way. I can't see why an SSR couldn't do it. I'm sure it has plenty of power but stopping might be the only problem but I can't see that being a problem either but who knows. Mine stopped but I could obviously feel the weight in back.

Mid 30s for a V8 SSR what a joke.
I purchased my 2002 dodge dually diesel new for less than that, sticker was 39,999 and i paid 32,change. That SSR is half the truck for twice the price.

Hey i didnt know about this....They did have a new Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky on display, awesome looking car and a supercharged version will be out in the Spring!

Blower on a solstice? i didnt know about that, i read up on the solstice and it has the same rear as the cadillac rear wheel drive correct?

I thought of buying one because of the curb weight, and adding a buick motor to one, kinda like a miata but a better rear end.
How much extra HP is the solstic supposed to have with the blower?

The $40K+ 5.3L SSR's were a joke. The 6.0L LS2 SSR's are worth mid thirties (if you have priced street rods recently).

Hey Quik6, I hadn't heard of a SS model either, but I haven't really been watching closely either, this is what 2 different reps there at the show said. One gal told me to watch/visit www.solsticeforum.com and www.mediagm.com for the latest info on them. The base 4 banger puts out 177hp/166ftlbs and 0-60 in 7.2....I wonder what the SS version will do, hope its not as weak as the Cobalt SS was that I drove. Yeah, mid $30's for a used SSR is a joke and would keep me from getting one....but the new LS2 powered ones I drove were a blast and had plenty of handling and hp to back it up for a truck that could be used to tow boat/GN! Not sure of the hp rating on the LS2s if it was 400 or 385hp?
The Saturn Sky was actually a little better looking than the Solstice I thought, both are the same car, Kappa platform....but it's still a Saturn :(

Thats good to know, my trailer for the GN has brakes that work very well, so that wouldn't be a problem...the boat brakes aren't so good, but I only trailer the boat about twice a year for only a few blocks, so that won't be a prob either.

Thanks for the website on the cars, i knew about the sky.. same plateform and all.
Could you imagine a brand new solstice with a LC2 motor shoved under the hood? I think it has the CADILLAC CTS rear end with 3:73 gears.
2860 LBS and 450 HP seem like a good combination

A buddy of mine in the pontiac club is picking one up for his wife, im going to start measuring under the hood to see if its even possible before i think about getting one when they are a few years old.

Good looking little car.

I met the Owner of Unique Performance at my son's Go Kart Race last weekend. They just did an HHR with an LS2 drivetrain.

The Build up will be on TLC's Rides Tomorrow Night (Tuesday 9/20).

He was trying to do other concept cars for GM. I'm sure swapping an LC2 in a Solstice/Sky will be in their future. I won't be able to afford it, but I couldn't afford a T/R or TTA when they were new, either.

thanks for the link and the heads up on the TLC showing, that is so awesome they could do that to the HHR.

Some of the ideas that they come up with are staggering, just plain awesome.

Wished i had that kind of money to do whatever i wanted.

I would do the LC2 in a solstice and install a rollbar, that much power and a little car = disaster
