Chinese Steel, metal whatever you want to call it just plain sucks...

Had a vice break in half today at the THICK part in the middle:eek: Mounted on WOOD, the wood didn't split move or anything but the vice just broke. Just applying arm power, no other extension for leverage:confused:

Just plain crap...

Going to find an American made one tomorrow:cool:

Shane,

Look into getting a Wilton Vise. Made right here in the USA...

Wilton Tools - Home

We used these for years without a single problem. You will be totally happy.

PS: Did you ever receive the T-shirt I sent you??

I was looking at some new wrenches at Sears and they said made in China on the wrench WTF !! I always thought they were made in USA, some still are but when did they start selling these ? I couldnt believe it:mad:

I have a Snap On bench vice that I've had for about 20 years now. It's a solid piston vice I can pretty much crush an entire car in that thing. Best vice ever!

100% true I have had mine for about 20 years now. the first 10 years of it's life was mounted to the bumper of my work truck.

NOPE, STILL WAITING BEOTCH!!

I have a couple Columbian, made in Cleavland.

Old guys and they are out there used, if you spend a few bux to clean them up and coat/paint them replace the jaws, they will last after you are gone.

And I have beaten on them many times.

Was it a Cheap Chinese vice or was it an expensive Chinese vice?
Not all everything from China is cheap junk.........just most of it.

I guess you could say that 99% of the chinese tools, make the rest of them look bad.

Here's a good one.
I once broke part of the head (the knob that hits the nail) off some guys claw hammer by hitting a piece of 3/4" thick glass. The broken piece launched accross the room, almost hitting somone. looking down, I could read the sticker that said "MADE IN CHINA", on the nice, new, shiney handle. I asked the guy that I got it from,"Where did you get this thing from?" In broken English, he said "De ninty nine cent store".

I handed him his shiney, broken hammer back along with a one doller bill and said "Keep the change"...

You can usually tell the quality of a worker (or mechanic), by the quality of his tools.

Just my 2Cents.

Happy spooling.

damn. ive been partial to Kurt MFG vises...then again, I was trained as a machinist in RIT>...lol.cheap digi calipers didnt work anymore later on; the micrometers are OK, provided i keep them adjusted/calibrated..unlike my Japanese Mituyo micrometers..the best measuring tools ive had, were Mituyos and the Swiss stuff, Startlett, Starlett? something like that. for beating tools though, I've still got my claw hammer I got from a yard sale (no name, solid steel handle, heavy, worn out rubber grips)..been getting quality stuff from yard sales and flea markets ;)

It is really pitiful, we were trying to take a bolt off the back of a BMW 7 series fan assembly... It is amazing to me the bolt, wrench, and base of the fan never flinched and this damn thing snapped in half:mad:

I hear you. I bought Chinese brake rotors once - they lasted about 1/4 as long as the brake pads!

Most of the steel coming from there is low grade with high carbon content and impurities. A friends family owns Potomac Steel in Springfield, VA. He says they have rejected and returned most of the crap from there, he also says it rusts way faster than steel from other suppliers.

Thanx scot w. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been looking for a Wilton for some time now. I have a Columbian, bought at auction, but no local retailer's are carrying the best vise on the market.

Yeah Shane, you just think it's steel! China sucks, period. When people finally wake up and realize that for a few dollars more, they can make single purchases instead of short term replacement society throw aways, we'll ALL be better off!;)

According to the Wilton website they own companies from all over the world including China. They own JET products too.
