I have a TE-44 and a 3"THDP regular maf pipe and throttle body the car ran great with the STOCK I.C. I just installed the big P.T.E. stock location I.C. and now at mid throttle it shutters or ( surges ). all hoses were took off and checked over and over just to make shure the hoses wern't leaking. do these TE-44's do this when upgrading to a front mount or stock location intercoolers? if so what has everyone done to make them work? someone please shed some light on this for me. thank's scotw.

You make them work by not staying in it at part throttle. The turbo is not flowing enough air at this throttle position and it makes it surge. Maybe there was enough restriction with the stock intercooler that you didn't have this problem. All turbo's have a surge line and your right on yours at half throttle.

I have heard that the chip can be reprogrammed and cure the surge. I went from a bone stock intercooler to a MJ 17 row with a TA49 with no issues. I was using RA's chip at the time.

Surge Fixed

The surge is fixed thanks guy's for all your help. the cure, the turbo is spolling up faster with the larger intercooler, so in essance thing's are happening faster like going to the floor with the throttle. it has to happen faster to accomodate the faster spool. NOW it don't do this at all. right to the floor and it's gone. like joe lubrant say's " if it hurts when you smile, then don't smile". and john craig " well, don't do it" :D classic lines.

I found the Boost Commander made a difference. I never had an issue after installing it.
