It would be nice if we had a section dedicated to the DEADBEATS that beat people for their money. It sure would help new members as well as old to know who these scumbags are so they can be avoided.

After a week or so the deadbeat posts get buried and forgotten. Some people have been waiting months or even years for their parts...

Dirt Bag alert.....

Here I'll start it off: Randy "Red" Sullivan... Board name: Reds Hot Air

He was supposed to build a hot 109 block for me, brought him the parts and spoke on and off with him for a while.... then his cell got disconnected, had a friend from VA Beach go to his house and he had moved. His cell is reconnected now but he wont return my calls... Here is what he took me for:

SG1/109 block w/RJC Girdle
Eagle Crank
2 Dot Rods
TRW Slugs w/light weight pins
Sealed power Rings
Complete Roller Cam set up
Complete Federal Mogul bearing set
Race ported 8445 heads and intake
Neutral balanced flexplate
SFI Balancer
Powdercoated Valve Covers
about every NOS GM sensor that mounts on the engine
and $1600.00 in cashiers check.....

He took stole from a Military guy, what a $hitbag

Would agree would be a worthy thread. The best you can do at times is refer to the trader rating, which at times has less than what was purchased/sold. Or dig around threads on the seller/buyer to see what activity has been done.
Rather than act like perry mason,a dedicated thread to losers would be beneficial the same as the feedback thread is.

I have thought about a forum just for that. I need to check with Jay about the legality of it...

Holy sheet! That's the kinda stuff im talking about. People like that need to hung by their balls! Sorry to hear. That's gotta sting!

thats sad.. the crook has all the rights BUT the guy who shelled out the $$$ doesn't have squat

It's just an idea... but it's still ur house Shane and you make the rules;)

Well you know how the gov is:mad: I am sure some crook would try to sue for his crookedness being made public. IE the cyber bullying act etc...

I "think" it is fine... As long as I don't encourage it:biggrin:

I've given him about 6 months since he has last contacted me, ran his info and this has not been anything new he's done. I had to write it off as a bad investment, no too much I can do really.... I can say that I'd do this or that, but I have a higher security clearance to protect, not to mention only a few years before I start to collect my Military pension. For me too many things to loose by letting some fool get the best of my mean streak....

Maybe some parameters could be set in place. If one feels the need to post in this section a sticky could be posted with DEADBEAT rules requiring them to PM you or a another moderator for review before posting to ensure the person who got beat made attempts to call or email this person several times over several weeks or whatever with no response.

I don't think it is for those who are upset with a part they received or how long it took to get there. That would simply be for the feedback section.

I'm referring to those who have made every attempt to make contact with the other side and it has been weeks, months or even years for some. I'm talking about the clear DEADBEATS. Maybe even a time frame parameter could be implimented before anyone's name and info is posted.

I just think it would make people think before beating others when their name and info is posted in a section that is easy to locate and never goes away till they make good.

I hope you reported this to the police in the jurisdiction he lives in. In my neck of the woods that's felony theft.

I dont believe it would be illegal to post who screwed who on this board or site. After all if you go to small claims court or bring a civil suit it is public knowledge. There are other web sites we look at before hiring someone to look at their background. So as a person who is going to be buying more parts for my GN I know I sure would like to know who Im going to be spending money with and know if they are reputable or not!!

You'd have to be careful because the board and the poster could be sued under slander deffination. The section might be set up so anyone could read it but to post you must submit it to a moderator first, that way you couldn't have someone with his feathers ruffled and hasn't called or contacted the seller to find out what the deal is.

Understand the definition of defamation of character. Defamation of character is the communication of false information stated as a fact which brings harm to an individual or an entity, such as a business, group or government. For it to be defamation, the statement must be delivered in speech or in writing to at least one person other than the victim.

Then comes Slander VS Libel...Slander is spoken and Libel is written.

Say the term libel when referring to the written defamation of someone's character. Libel is the defamation of an individual's or an entity's character which is published in a written medium, such as a newspaper. However, any written communication can be libelous as long as it's transmitted to a third party.

BUT....

The latest is a judgement from Justice Eady that Defamation on internet bulletin boards is more like slander than libel. Justice Eady said that bulletin board discussions are characterised by “give and take” and should be considered in that context.

"[Bulletin board posts] are rather like contributions to a casual conversation (the analogy sometimes being drawn with people chatting in a bar) which people simply note before moving on; they are often uninhibited, casual and ill thought out," he said in his ruling. "Those who participate know this and expect a certain amount of repartee or 'give and take'."
"When considered in the context of defamation law, therefore, communications of this kind are much more akin to slanders (this cause of action being nowadays relatively rare) than to the usual, more permanent kind of communications found in libel actions," said the ruling. "People do not often take a 'thread' and go through it as a whole like a newspaper article. They tend to read the remarks, make their own contributions if they feel inclined, and think no more about it."

" referring to common themes in the postings, such as that of 'bullying' other users and making 'threatening demands' for money. That is classic fair comment territory and, in the light of the modern authorities, it is inconceivable that a jury would find any of those who expressed such a view 'malicious' – let alone all of them," he said. "Opinions may be expressed in exaggerated and strident terms; the only requirement is that they be honestly held. It is fanciful to suppose that any of these people did not believe what they were saying. Even if they reached their conclusions in haste, or on incomplete information, or irrationally, the defence would still avail them."

(above was exerpt from some online Law chit chat blog deal")

But the good side is that since its more along the lines of slander vs libel and since slander is almost impossible to challenge and win a judgement in court...

Damn, I thought you were a lawyer or a judge till I got to the bottom of that thread!!:D

A section for this would be great, as there has been alot of this BS going on lately. People suck

I think there is going to be issues like these on the rise because of this economy. Just harder to run a small business now a days. We all are going to have to be extra cautious when investing into parts and services. get those references and talk to someone whos been thru it. We are all here to help each other and we know who our supporting venders are. If we cant legally post the bad, we'll just have to scream out on the good. I do like the idea though, the internet seems to be full of buyer beware sites and threads.
