So after tearing down my motor installing ported heads, ferrea valves,110lb springs, a 218 cam, champion intake, 72mm tb and after the break in period and a few hundred miles on the car I took it to the track. The car pulls hard(only on 15lbs) but will only go to about 4500rpm and then it shifts

Im now thinking it could be a motor issue or trans issue... Its running 10.1 afr (it could be lower because I belive thats as low as the autometer wideband displays)

Re adjusted tv cable, no change, changed tv cable no change. I put it in second and tried taking it up to 5500 or so and it got up to 5300 or so. Kind of felt sluggish on the top end. Any ideas what to check next

What are you using to measure rpm? Might be off a bit if you are sluggish at 5300. Just a thought

Did you ck. for proper preload after installing the cam? Do you have the stats on the trans? Gov. , shift points, etc. Any codes?

Before the trans would shift at 5500 or so. No codes..trans was built by tci. Has some hardened parts. Just rebuilt 500 miles ago or so.

Roller cam or flat tappet? I'd double check the spring pressures are right for the cam. everything u changed shouldn't have made shift points changed especially since u messed with tv cable an changed it. If u manually shift it u said its just sluggish in higher rpm meaning it quits pulling? Does boost stay up when "it's sluggish" in higher rpms?
