I purchased Fred Vetters old car yesterday. It is the white 87 T still only has 18K on it. I heard there may have been an ariticle or two about this car in the past. If anybody has any info or knows ANYTHING about this car please let me know.

I am looking ANY info I can find!

TIA

I'm soooooooooooo jealous! I've wanted that car for years & know it well. I will search out my archives & pass the info along. What shape is the car in? How does it run? It used to run mid 11's often with a very basic combo.

It looks great:biggrin: The interior is MINT! The paint is decent has a few spots.... Probably will paint it. It has a TA -49 & STOCK DP!!! An ext row stock location and a few other little things. I am just getting car on rack now and getting ready to go over with a fine tooth comb. I haven't even driven it yet. Had to change the rims;) The guy I bought it from said he ran it a few times at the track with pump gas at 18psi and ran 11.60's!

After Jay checks it out and makes a new chip for it we will blast her off and she what see does:biggrin:

Hopefully pics soon!

Maybe a video also:biggrin:

Good luck with it....

I actually drove the car a few months ago,I was considering getting rid of my Silver T for it....(was looking for something with a cage already in it).But after parking it next to my T in the parking lot...I couldn't do it.After seeing them side by side..I realized I couldn't let my T go for it.(Already had a buyer lined up for my car).

Car felt strong...Trans shifted nice.I would lose the Blue tops out of it...I don't know how they say the car went 10's on that setup.

O yeah....that has to be the nicest bar I have ever seen in a regal.when I do get a car to cage...It will have a bar Identical to that one.Really liked how it ran in the trunk also.

Glad to hear you ditched those butt ugly rims...Also,Didnt care for the "Molly" signed everything.

Again...Best of luck with the car...Im really surprised it took so long for him to sell it...and at what seemed to be a good price also.

I think it kinda shows what a bar does to the value of a car...Even a super low mile car.

YES!....I knew this car very well!...

Being one of Fred Vetter's oldest customers and long time friend, I remember that car which I saw so many times go down the track at Englishtown, NJ, always running low 11's...I recall Fred telling me that he bought the car new in Florida (Fort Myers I think...) at a dealer called "Dixie Buick" or Dixie Motors" or something like that, after seeing it on the delivery truck, arriving at the dealer. (I remember, the car still had the dealer logo on it)". He bought it and drove it back to NJ with his wife Donna, throwing their airline return tickets in the trash can! He later on founded Dynotech (which he eventually sold to Eric Schertz who recently moved it to NY) and used the car as a test bed for several new (for the time) go-fast tricks which he eventually ended up doing on my own car too. He put Centerline wheels on it which were still on the car recently I believe...I also remember the car had a blue interior with a nice roll bar with swing-out side bars like mine and even a blue-painted Scanmaster!
I still have a few pictures of the car, some with my own car parked next to it.
I'm the one who bought his enclosed trailer, the one in which he trailered the white "T" to the track on those occasions where he did not want to drive it on the street, although the car always remained streetable it's whole life.

"JOHNDEEREGN", my pleasure...I could go on but you got the essential I remember about this car...Too bad the pictures I have are regular 35mm.pics...not digital...so I don't know how to post them here...

Claude

Well i haven't had much time to dig through my stuff but i did find the October 1988 issue of Street & Strip Supercar magazine & your car is featured in both an article on Fred Vetter & Dynotech & at the first Gran National showdown at Englishtown NJ. There is a nice picture of the car launching in the final round against Jim D'Allessandro. More stuff to come.....

Wow thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have any idea how I might get a copy of any of this????

I really apprecatie the responses guys!!

I have one of those stories related to Fred and the white car..... it was a memorable one for me.... Not sure of the date, but we went to Etown for the big mustang-Buick shootout, back then it was hugggggge... All the big guns were there, Lawrence, Duttweiller, Jimmy D and others... the excitement and electricity were unbelievable. We decided this weekend I would race for the first time... had no idea what I was doing, no clue what classes we were in... just signed up for the bracket classes. The first day of racing I ended up racing Donna in the semi I believe, I knew who she was and that I had no chance of beating her..... well I cut a good lite, got out on her, course she was dialed in with a faster time than me, she went by me at half track or so and toyed with me the rest of the way.... until I blew by her at the finish line to "put her onn the trailer"... ya see, she underestimated my car, I dialed in a 12. something, but really had an 11 second ride..... :) I went on to win the finals. Talk about on cloud 9......not to mention, Fred and Donna were not happy..... thats another story... The next day, sunday, more of the same, ran in the bracket class, made it to the finals, only this time I was up against what we called "Fred's highered gun" he was driving GNX # 007..... Wow, holy tabasco sause.... I beat him for my second victory in 2 days at my first race ever....... needless to say that was the beginning of my racing career after a couple of years of just TTing.... To sum it up, my first race and 1st win were against your new car...

Oh ya... somewhere around here I have the clipping from the Etown newspaper....

Great story Jack! Good to see you around man!

Here are a few pics!

Congrats on adding another nice example to your stable!

Very nice ride Shane! I remember seeing it in the old ads for Dynotech in the older issues of GMHTP mag that I have. Can't remember exactly, but I think Fred held some NHRA index records with this car at one time as well??

My dad's silver '86 T-type also has some history with Fred as he built the shortblock for the car and the previous owner Marc Karp won TFS in Bristol back in '99 with it.. Also, I believe Marc purchased the car from Fred when he lived up in NJ..

I don't believe that is the same car that set the records. There are pictures of it in one of Kirbans books and it had chrome mirrors and trim. This car was a personal driver of Fred's. I had a local guy check it out for me a few months ago, but decided to pass since it needed paint. I think I've got about 80 pictures of it.

The NHRA record holder was another white T that was campaigned by Fred Vetter & driven by Jim D'allesandro. It was white with a Gray interior & the car had the base chrome mirrors. A very cool car. Full "stocker" engine & prepped chassis. Shane's car was considered the street car with a basic combo that was earned 1/10th at a time.

I owe Fred Vetter a big Thank You as he took me under the wing & showed me the way when i was young a dumb. He was big on keeping things Simple, tuning, testing & only making 1 change at a time.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Fred owned several TRs when he was in business so it wouldn't surprise me if it was a different car..

In any event, this white T is a really nice ride and as others have stated I like the way the rollbar was done.
