Re; amnesty-Thanks Mr Bush, Let's just give this country away. No need for borders, a common language. Lets be everything to everyone. Anything less would be mean.

America is headed for a chaotic future.

Thank god my British and Dutch great grand parents got into the US when they did.....

Not sure of all the "issues", but why wouldn't we be as open to immigration as past generations were?

Enlighten me.

Gee, it's not like they enforced illegal immigrant laws anyhow. Reality check, this won't make much difference in the grand scheme of things.

Here's the reality check;

My grandparents emigrated here LEGALLY. They had to learn the language, take citizenship classes and pass a citizenship test which included the structure of our government, elected offices, voting and everything else that makes a good and responsible citizen. Now compare that to what's being proposed by President Bush and in 1986 by President Reagan. An immigrant now only has to "show up" and work and VIOLA...you're a legal resident. How nice.

Why do we pass laws but fail to enforce them (immigration law). As a county deputy sheriff, I've run into many illegal immigrants and guess what I can do about them....NOTHING. The US Constitution sets enforcement of immigration law to the Federal Government only. The INS or Border Patrol won't bother with any illegal immigrant unless they've committed a felony.

See any problems yet?.....

Well at least then we could tax their wages and show them what its like to pay for their illegal buddies. This would probably slow some of it down after the contractors and business owners have to pay at least a fair minimum wage instead of the crap they usally pay illegals. Not to mention unemployment insurance and social security. They won't be such a great low cost resource for workers then. They will want intelligent english speaking types if they have to pay the same to the illegals that don't instead maybe.I may just be wishing though.

what does it really matter? the best runners jumpers and swimmers from mexico will still come over here just the same, work for a few beans a day, then turn themselfs into immigration when they want to go back to see their familys for a free trip home. i'm guesing this won't affect a thing.

i usually dont' say much bad about bush, he could be better, but at least we didn't get stuck with the tree hugger whinny gore we came so close to getting. he might not be able to pour piss out of a boot with the instructions written on the heel, but at least hes not a tree hugging hippie, i'm not saying destroying every forest around is a good idea either.

Illegal immigrants come to this country because they know there will always be someone who will hire them. There will always be some greedy business owner who does not want to pay fair wages to an American, because let's be real these immigrants do not own the businesses they work at. So instead of targeting your anger at the immigrants, your anger should be targeted at the people who hire them. This is just an opinion from a working-class American citizen

No,Illegals come here because they turned their own country to crap and then try to do it to ours. You live in Dallas area...care to take a look around?

I agree, their country has turned to crap, but it is not the people who come here that have turned it to crap. It is the people who control these countries. I do not see any of the people who control these countries coming to America.

I'm glad this law is about to happen. Why? It proves what I've been saying all along and will expose Bush and all his stupid little neo-con buddies in Congress and show you guys once and for all that he is NOT a true conservative at all. I honestly don't know why so many of us on the right like this guy. He's NOT one of us. America hasn't had a real conservative as President since Ronald Reagan.

With that being said, I'm voting for Bush this November, because he's still much better than Howard Dean or that skinny little poor excuse for a general liberal swine Wesley Clark.

Maybe it's just a clever scheme to weed out the illegals, and those who hire them?? I doubt it though...:D

I think his effort is a textbook example of what is wrong with government -- it needs revamped to reflect today's world. I would be shocked if the majority of legal citizens would vote in favor of this bill.

DId you ever notice how little say we REALLY have....

Although I am 100% against this bill, it will be nice to know that they'll have to file taxes like the rest of us!

In reality it probably won't make much of a difference.
I'm not sure, will the illegal aliens have to pay Federal taxes on their newly legalized jobs?
Anti immigration groups are going crazy for obvious reasons; pro-immigration groups are also upset. They feel that it will encourage illegals to remain un-protected in un-regulated jobs/ industries and be subjected to further labor abuse.
How shallow is this attempt to court Hispanic and Latino voters on the part of President Bush?

This country will slowly turn into a Spanish speaking country.
It is getting ridiculous here in Texas. Everything is in English and Spanish.

Any good that will come out of it will be at the cost of onerous paperwork and regs. Details are sketchy , and I am trying not to care, but I believe that an employer must prove, before hiring an illgal, that some Americans tried to get the job.

Yes, we have no voice. A poll shows that 70% dont support border jumping. In many cases, other Hispanics dont like it either.
I just bet a terrorist act that was exacerbated by the loose border would add to that figure.

And to the environmentalist, remember, every person who comes here will now be another consumer in the industrialized world. Using cars, electricity, etc. Remember the good old days when America actually worried about population? Now, even greeny democrats are silent on population/growth issues.

Furthur, why does America insist in deafeningly quiet ways, I might add, to force cultures together. America has enough issues on its own. The cultural shock is very difficult to the immigrant also. Their depression rates grow higher the longer they are in America. Christmas will possibly be replaced by "The holidays" before long.

No cohesive border, no cohesive country.

And can you believe I heard them say on the news last night that the Democratic Presidential candidates think he didn't go far enough and should have done more for illegals?

This makes sense to me. Greedy business owners screwing their fellow Americans. The only time this would be justified is if they couldn't find anyone to do the work. Otherwise...

Oklahoma is quickly headed the same direction as Texas. Our Hispanic population has exploded in the last few years. Some of them are good people, some are not. In Tulsa, you used to hear every once in a while about the mostly Black gangs killing each other in the north part of town. Now we've started to hear about Hispanics killing other Hispanics. We don't have a big problem with murders but when it happens you hear about it. On the other hand I've known some Hispanics that were respected citizens and welcome in the community.

This is exactly right. Bush hasn't DONE anything. He PROPOSED a bill that will be voted on by YOUR representatives in congress.

Clinton and many of the current Democrat candidates have proposed Executive Orders to do similar things. No vote, no debate.
