Ok well I'm pretty sure I have a heated O2 sensor in my car now..and I'm gonna replace the plugs and O2 sensor...BUT I don't have the $108 to dish out to kirbans for a heated O2 sensor kit..so would there be a big difference if I just got the regular stock O2 sensor?? I think this may be 1 problem that has to do with my MPG..also since I have $70 in gift certificates to pep boys, I'm gonna buy spark plugs..is it fine for the car if I get the Bosch platinum 4 spark plugs?? or is there somethin that pep boys sells that you reccommend??
Also I'm gonna get that car care kit that has 5 different fluids==
Engine Treatment
Fuel System treatment
Trans Treatment
Precision Oil and
Super Penetrating lubricant..
Do you think after doing all of this I can expect more than 10 MPG???
I sure hope so..

your bad mileage could be directly related to a bad 02 sensor......don't get the Bosch...get a Delco...s/b around $20 (non heated)...you can look at your plugs and determine if they are a problem...once again, stick with AC plugs....43's or 42's

forget the box of magic juice

PLugs and stuff

Do NOT put the Bosch Plat's in your turbo engine. Use the AC CR43TS plugs gapped at a tight .035".
Next, DO NOT put that engine crap or tranny crap in your car.
The fuel injector cleaner may help a bit, but don't expect a miracle.

As for the O2 sensor.. DO NOT use the cheapo sensor. Get the DELCO gennie part...only about $30.00 and will have 1 wire on it.
IF the car has the heated sensor, you will have to put the wiring back to stock to plug it in.

If the car has not had the "spring cleaning" done, go to gnttype@gnttype.org and go to the archives and find out how to do it.
There are ALOT of pieces of info there to help get the car in good shape. Once there, you should have no problem getting MUCH better than 10mpg!!:D :D

$30 for a crummy Delco 02 sensor? Geez Chuck, you can tell I haven't bought one in a while..............

Just to add a little more info on the plugs. The ones you want are AC Delco "CR43TS". Some parts places may not have the "C" model and only have "R43TS" these will work OK aswell. The "C" stands for comercial and they just have a larger elctrode, otherwise both plugs will work fine.

The Delco O2 Sensor will cost you more like $37-$40 from a cost plus 10% dealer, if you don't have a cost dealer try$50.00!!! You can still get them from Modern muscle for 3 for $66.00 + shipping + tax though!!

Meant to add that the "Cost" dealers WILL charge you tax though so its more like $42.00 or so out the door!!!

platinum plugs

OK, since it seems to be general knowledge, why are platinum plugs so bad the turbo V6?? Wouldn't the self-cleaning property be an advantage??

why don't you try them and see............obviously you have a lot of experience with these turbo motors and the rest of us are just blowing smoke?

The heated O2 that Kirban's has is the Casper's unit. It is cheaper to purchase from Casper's.

To AZGN:

No flames were intended......seriously, why are platinum plugs not good for the turbo motors??

The electrode in platinum plugs is brittle/delicate and tends to come apart in the high pressure environment of a forced induction engine.

Also, they don't seem to like the waste spark ignition where half the plugs fire in one polarity and the other half fire the oppositie direction.

Platinum is great at firing when cold, stop and go driving around town, etc.
But when the heat's on,it's conductive properties break down.
Your engine will ping[been there],leading to possible damage[I was lucky, wan't pushing too hard].
Of course you've probably heard guys with Camaros,Vettes,Hondas[aack!],say they love platinums, right?
Great plugs for Non forced induction cars. They don't make the power per cylinder like we do[for the most part],and they don't have wasted spark ignition, firing the plugs twice as often as a regular V-6 w/ the attendant heat buildup.
Hope that explains it for you.:)

So if/when I get the stock O2 sensor, since I have a heated one in there now, what would I have to do to get the wiring back to stock?? Should it be easy??

Many folks consider having a heated 02 sensor an upgrade, so a suggestion is to not go back to the unheated stock sensor.

HTH :)

It's mainly an upgrade for people who race because it won't break if you use leaded race fuel..but I don't race and don't plan on using things like that..but I know it's supposed to make the idle smoother and stuff like that but if pep boys doesn't sell a heated one then I'm not goin anywhere else to dish out $100
cuz I have$70 in gift certificates so if pep boys can sell me a heated one then I'll get it.
do they have it?
