I am going to change a leaky heater core as well as my evaporator, the evaporator is good but since I have a new one, I'll change it too since |I'm in there. I know I'll have to recharge the a/c system it's already 134A and I have a new accumulator as well.

What type of caulking / silicon / sealant should I use between the firewall and the heater box? I was thinking an automotive strip caulking but I don't really have any experience in this area. My brother in law will be doing all the work, I just want to make sure I have all the materials on hand.

Any good advice is appreciated as always.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

No one ever change a heater core before? If so what did you use to seal up the box to the firewall?

I used Butyl.it is what older windshields were put in with also is what was used by the facory on your opera windows .it never drys.Advanced auto has it in a roll .Ive done 3 of my cars with it no leaks .its made by 3m .if the evaporator is aftermarket you might look at the return side to make sure the length and bend are correct most are NOT

Thanks guys, this is exactly what I needed. I had Steve Woods site saved as a favourite on my old computer, I just got this one so it's book marked now for sure. The car will be in good hands, same guy, the brother in law who did the evaporator in my 2003 Mercury Marauder, now that was hell. Excellent write up by Steve!!!! Thanks you Bob, thank You Jon!!!

For the parts I had purchased new old stock a while back, thinking I might need these one day.
