I know I'm anal, but Was a little concerned with 194deg F PS fluid temps after only a 1 hour highway drive the other week. No road racing, no autocross just a gentle highway driving with minimal turning and braking. Was worried that the PS fluid temps would soar when the car was pushed hard.
My black PSC Aluminum PS fluid reservoir was 152deg F, so it is dissipating heat as designed (even though it's tucked in deeper & closer to the engine than the short factory plastic PS reservoir)
I installed a De Rale Frame Rail 17-1/2" 2 pass power steering cooler with -6AN connections in the low pressure line leaving the steering box and connects to the PSC reservoir low pressure return with 3/8" ID high pressure Push Lok hose & fittings.
I also replaced my mineral based PS fluid with Valvoline VR-1 Racing Synthetic PS Fluid. (supposed to lower fluid temperatures & perform better at elevated temps).
After a short 1 mile drive PS fluid temps were 145deg F.
FYI, this is a 30deg F temperature drop from the 175deg F on same 1 mile test drive performed prior to the above changes & install.
Note: PS cooler is mounted behind grill, on lower edge of radiator support (outside of engine compartment) , where it will get some nice cool air when moving.
