After 11 months I finally was hired on permanent at my job. I started through a temp agency and worked hard to get where I am now. With all the bad news in the economy these days I feel extremely blessed and wanted to share. It seems as if on a daily basis no matter what forum I visit or news channel I watch I hear of lay offs and bad news in the job market. With this new status I get a raise, premium health insurance, dental, 401 k, accumulated personal take off days with pay, paid holidays, paid vacation, etc. Not only those things but the opportunity to receive in house promotions, training, tuition reinbursement in the event I further my education to gain a higher paying position. All that along with respect. I worked very hard to achieve this and only wish the best to the rest of you out there in these troubling times.

Congrats!!! Good to hear someone receiving a job instead of losing one.

I had to lay-off a friend 3 weeks ago and the manager in the other department had to do the same on the same day.

What industry?

I work in the auto industry for part of the big "T" and they have offered employment buyouts for us. I would get 20K + no contest to un-employment benefits. The funny thing is they are well aware that I can't be replaced for what they pay me now. They have been told a consultant doing what I do is $250+ per hour. I wish I made even half that...

I'm still waiting to hear about two other employment options before I pull the trigger and leave. There is work out there, IT consulting is booming right now. Companies have cut too close to the bone and have to immediately back fill positions. There is one local tech company that really wants me to join them. Problem is their guys are on the road way too much. When I was at Lexmark, we called the transition from contract to full time as "Getting your red badge of courage". not many people got it. They passed on hiring one of the guys who worked at intel designing the P2 processor and programming the robots to handle the chips. If he couldn't get hired nobody would...

I feel horrible for these people who are without jobs (I may be one soon). Lexington is seeing many new faces from Michigan and Ohio.

Electronics repair technician for one of the largest companies in the world. We are growing and gaining new customers on a daily basis. I am very thankful as I previously stated in the current shape of our economy. The IT consulting is huge. I have access to tuition reinbursement and a campus a mile away so I am moving forward on that as well. It should be what you know not who you @@@@.
