Just installed a new 3500 rpm stall PTS 9/11 lockup stall converter and it's not locking up like it should...tranny has a new TCC solenoid and also I checked the brake switches to make sure they were being depressed properly...what else is there to check?

Did you check the voltage at the connector? Did you drive it down the road and do the brake tap test?

What about the vss sensor. I just replaced mine because I was it felt like the converter was locking and unlocking at weird times. I just put it on and have yet to test drive it ....wish me luck!! Oh yah how about taking it for a spin without the tcc hooked up and see it that solves it?

i second the VSS sensor or the small green VSS box if it turns out there is power to the wires going into the tranny , our 86 did the same thing. Although it did throw a code every once in a while that said it was the VSS not giving a correct signal

how do you replace this VSS sensor...is it also inside the case of the tranny like the TCC solenoid is? my speedometer reads properly?

I tested the purple wire terminal on the connect under the car and it reads 13v...tested the wire at the brake switch and it also reads 13+v...I did notice the button wasn't being depressed 100%...more like 90%...so I fixed that and tested the wire again...voltage goes to 0 when I press the brake in...goes back to 13+v when I let off the brake...so it's good there...I will go take the car for a test drive and see what happens...I will also mess around with my manual TCC lockup switch...

How does this converter drive around town? If you accelerate on the highway in overdrive what is the rpm instantly?at 55 mph? hope you get the lock up figured out manually

well i drove it around again...if the converter is locking up then I can barely feel it...i mean the cruise rpms at 55 mph are about 1800...is that normal??? when i press the brake pedal while still pressing the gas...i think i can feel and hear the rpms go up SLIGHTLY then go back down again...i mean it's so suttle that I can barely notice it...i could definitely tell when my stock converter locked up...it almost felt like a 5th gear!

Well if the converter is very efficient you will barely feel the difference, it should be about 200 rpm jumpwhen you put your foot on the brake and gas at the sametime. whats the rpm you get when you brake torque at a standstill, and the tires just beging to spin. DOnt use the factory tach it shows 400-500 rpm high.

(55 mph x 3.42x .67)x336/26" tire=1628 rpm

so i would say your close, this would be the locked rpm though

If you have a manual lockup switch drive down a surface street at slow speed slowly accelerating to 40 or so.

When it goes into third gear throw the switch if it doesn't lug in 3rd at 35-40 mph and drop some rpms most likely it isn't working.

Should be an easy test to do with a switch. :)

Lockup valve have hanging up? I had a N/L converter in my driver then switched to a PTS 9x11. No lockup at road test....Found that the valve body wiring was not plugged up at the bulkhead connector on the inside of the tranny. HTH..Scott

I'll try the manual lockup thing tomorrow...so far I have driven about 200 highway miles since I got this car running again...still no lockup...it feels like it keeps wanting to lockup and unlock right at about 45-50 mph...like the car is stuttering...especially when I let off the throttle at that speed...I just wonder if letting the tranny sit for 9 months and 3 months without fluid screwed up the TCC solenoid in the trans...but it's only like under 2 years old...
