thats excellent news. Good for you. Glad to see you back in the driver's seat and running very respectable numbers. All the best with the rest of the season.

Yes, plenty of giddyup :) Glad you could make some good shakedown passes this weekend Art. I'd love to see the car with a 5000+ rpm launch pill.

The track seemed very good- the blown alky pro mod (+ smelled some nitro?) was able to lay down a pair of 4.1x's at 179 in the last 2 rds to win the pro outlaw class. It was hooking some serious power. San Antonio Raceway is a good track- we're blessed to have it. Too bad the old farmer that lives beyond the runoff area has taken to pot shotting at cars that run off the end and onto his land- he's not much of a race fan it seems ;) lol.

When I first started reading the thread I was trying to figure out why the car was black in your avatar, then I got to page two.

Awesome car, awesome thread. Keep it upright this time.

Dangit.. why do I keep missing out on these track outtings?!>>!!>

Awesome to get the car going again Art.

Haven't seen you John N. or most of the Buick crowd in a awhile. Saw Mitch Smith and Carl Brimer at the IHRA Texas Nationals at the new Dallas facility this past weekend, see Jim West once in a while, Todd King still helps me tune when our schedules allow. With the Lubbock track being redone, no local Buicks to see either except my own.

Made some progress with the (ahem) Camaro during Top Sportsman qualifying in Dallas. What a great track they prepared. Ran 7.65 @ 194 pedaling off the line. Then ran 7.41 @ 189 with a 1.10 60' and again a pedal. The fuel fitting at the pump was spewing fuel near end of run (FAST was maxing out in compensation), and the blower belt was being shredded by contacting a small area of the belt guard. That did me in. The mph was #8 in the field but the ET #19. The way it's set up with boost control off the line for a couple seconds, 5000 rpm launch, 30 psi max boost, 3.89 gears, 1.80 tranny gear set, 7800 rpm shift, it's on pace for ~ 7.20 at this weight. A more aggressive setup might cut half a second but this is fine for now.

Art, always great to see progress. Great that you're getting down the track and probably enjoying what's been happenning with your ride.

I've been around for the Ford Vs. Buick to help some guys tune on cars, but that's about it. Career has been the focus as of late.

If you still have a buick of some sorts, maybe you'd have some fun catching up with old friends up in OK this october. Let us know if you ever get back to San Antonio raceway.

West as in Lubbock.

Got back from the Sooner Nationals in Tulsa yesterday. In Friday qualifying #1 , the bolts holding the belt pulley to the blower shaft sheared off in the burnout. The loose pulley ground through the manifold water hose-end causing a leak. With a lot of help, it was fixed in time for the last qualifying session. I got squirrelly a couple 100' out and lifted but all I needed was that pass to make the field.

Dialed a 7.40 against my opponent's 7.19 just in case it ran. Still getting the hang of delay box racing so I was wayyy late and lost the round. Car hooked and pulled hard all the way and no way I was going to let myself pedal it this time. Shifter solenoid failed again but I was able to slap the shifter into 2nd before hitting the rev limiter. Result:

60' 1.086

330' 2.965

660' 4.557 @ 156.55 mph

1000' 5.898

1320' 7.026 @ 199.29

Didn't think it'd run quite this well with the current set-up and some hot humid conditions but I'm really glad it did and it made the trip worth it

Great passes.

On all the procharged cars we check the bolts every couple of passes. Once they loosen up a bit they will shear off easily. One car with an F2 went to a larger bolt but we still have to check the bolts to make sure they stay tight.

Thanks for the info Dusty.

The racing gods sure put you through heck again last weekend, as they often do. But your perserverance paid off, along with some great help from your new friends there :) I think nitro Harley racers generally tow their own machine shops around- they seem to be rather hard on parts ;)

Congratulations on the great pass and new personal bests! Looking forward to more, maybe this weekend eh?

Dusty, I will definitely be checking those pulley bolts regularly now. Thanks for the tip. Charlie, not sure I'll be in OK again this year, will likely pass on the NHRA Divisional in Noble. John, thank you!

Todd, yes, I was impressed with the nitro drag bike guys. Regular good people. Tommy Grimes who rides for Ray Prices's nitro Harley team out of NC walked over to see what I was doing and threw himself into the project. Another rider provided replacement bolts and some crew guys helped with muscling that pulley back on the damaged blower shaft. Too bad the McAmis vender trailer wasn't giving parts away but they did fix me up as far as replacing the damaged coolant line and fittings. I now have the lightest, most expensive -12AN radiator-manifold hose (BMRS) in town .

I decided not to make the trip to Lufkin/Pine Valley this coming weekend for the SuperDivisional. It's a long trip and with no crewman coming with me for the 3-race weekend, I'll collapse from exhaustion in that weather. I'll wimp out and instead bobtail it to Clovis, NM where my wife is "running" our Border Collie in a weekend agility course competition.

Wow!

Am pleased to hear this good news Art:) , glad it's finally coming together, keep up the good work.Let us know when you hit that magic 200.
