Forget the gas, mix up some xylene home brew, turn the alky to max and you end up only running 25% gas and 75% alky/xylene! ;)

I took my car for some test runs yesterday with the new dual nozzle setup. I had about 3-4 60mph kick downs and about 3 0-60mph hits and emptied the alky tank. This dual nozzle setup goes through the alky fast!!! I was running 25psi, with the alky on max and the EGT never got above low 1500s. So, I've got some tuning to do.

Sounds fun.:D You still planning on going up friday for mid night madness?? I will be there spectating for sure.

Yep, I'll be there. Hoping to have the car running good. I will be on pure 93 and alky.

A have a few questions.

Blackshoebox & Suburban,You both have te-44's like myself. Also I see where you(Suburban)have a combo similar to mine with the 009's.I wanted to know what you guys have your fuel pressure set at?
Where do you buy xylene, how much does it cost, and how much do you add to 93 pump gas & denatured alchy?
What octane will that work out to be?
I having alot of tuning problems with the alchy & any help would be appreciated.I just got a 108 race chip from Jay Carter and I believe it's got 27 degrees of timing,do you think I could run that w/ the xylene/93/alchy mix?If not, what chip do you believe works best as far as timing goes?

Thanks,The Darkside

I am a bit confused with my setup myself. I made several WOT passes with the boost set at 20lbs and had no knock. I then punched it at 40 mph and my knock shot up to 39.3. Is this a false reading? My O2s were in the high 700's. On the other WOT runs the O2 reading was low 800's. I would think at 39 it would have damaged my engine if it were accurate.

When you punched it the engine probably shifted and something hit. Look at the motor mounts and downpipe and see if they may be hitting something. try revving the engine and see if it shifts in the engine bay

It does its normall flex but nothing that is too extreme. Do you agree if that were accurate I would have some serious problems? So I would assume to chalk it up as a bad reading? I do notice that it boosts higher when I get on it from higher speeds. Let me get this straight. It gets it knock reading from vibrations such as the DP hitting the side wall or a broken engine mount? I know alot of questions b

You may want to turn your turn on point down a tad. Most likely you have something banging in the engine bay giving false knock. It takes a second for the alky to get into the throttle body, so from a kick down you have 20 lbs of boost and no alky for a second. You could also hit the test button for a second before you kick it down. Try that and see if you get a knock reading. If you don't get a knock reading after priming the alky then it is because of the delay in the alky getting from the bottle into the air stream.

I have fuel pressure @ 41 psi line off. as far as chips go some guys will only use a 93 oct chip with alky to keep timing in the 18-20 range. others are say they can run a 108 chip with 27-28 deg on 93 & alky. I'm using a Joe lubrant 100 oct 23deg chip for 93 & alky for the street and pretty satisfied. Lubrant 110-28 deg for the track.

"I then punched it at 40 mph and my knock shot up to 39.3. Is this a false reading?"

This is false knock. My guess is the car downshift into second and then "burst" into third which creates a lot of load on the motor. I usually shift my car if i punch in from a slow roll to avoid this. It also could be a bad motor mont or downpipe hitting the frame.

I also run 009's. My experiences with chips and tuning with alky was i could run more boost with a high timing "race chip" since race chips typically give more fuel enrichment after 3000 rpms. You can have a custom burned race chip with less timing if you prefer to run less timing and more boost, but i prefer to run a happy median of both. ;)

Fuel mixture is simply trial and error, my formula is about 9 gallons of pump fuel to about 3 gallons of race fuel(110 or higher) will get you about 100 octane. Some guys mix pump with xylene to get higher octane also.

Pay attention to your spark plugs and what there gapped @. Higher boost=tighter gapping. If the plugs are not gapped tight enough you will experience knock since all that air flowing in will blow out the spark. I run NGK ur5's gapped @ .32.
