Came to work today and someone borrowed my winch. I doubt they will be nice enough to return it when they are done. So I am looking for a new Warn winch. What size do you guys use? I think I should just get the 4700 rated line pull for $400. What size do you have?

Ive got a 3500lb warn on my tilt bed trailer and it has no problem with an average size vehicle as long as its free rolling. I did have to double line it get a buds 86 f250 ext cab 4wd truck on the trailer but that thing is HUGE/heavy with 1 ton axles, lift, 38" tires, non power stroke diesel, etc. While double lining is slow I havent ran into anything yet, automotively speaking, that the smallish winch I have cant drag onto the trailer.

Im thinking a 4700lb winch would be plenty for just about anything and double lining it would allow you to drag prolly anything on a trailer even if it didnt have wheels/tires.

Anyone have anything to add to this?.

Jeg's has a brand called T-Max, anyone running one of them?.

Or what brands have people been having good luck with?.

I used a 3500 superwinch on my open car hauler. It was more enough to drag a car out of a dirt floor garage (rear wheels locked up) up on to the trailer without no stress or strain.

I wouldn't go anymore than that when getting one for my new enclosed trailer.

winch or wench?

I have a 8000lb winch, on my trailer, it may be over kill, but I'm never
underpowered,(kinda like the buick)
additionally I mounted my winch on a 1/2" plate steel, and welded a trailer
hitch to it, then welded a reciever to my trailer, now it comes off easy,( to store it out of the weather) and locks on easy,(using std hitch lock) and can be used in any reciever type trailer hitch, (like for pulling a car out of the ditch)
Just my 2 cents

I agree with above

I agree with above bigger is better and safer. Never know when you have to pull your whole rig with the winch. I have been stuck with trailer and used winch to pull whole rig out backwards.
We have a 8000 as well. If you already pissed and hot messing with a broke down car and you cant get the thing on the trailer   . Better to be safe than sorry in my book. Always hook mine and GET ER DONE.
