Hi.
I am Bryan, I am also a regular over at hotrodders. I followed a new link here and started reading this post.

Not sure if any of you have checked all there is to check over there, but, thought you may like to know:

The administrator at Hotrodders had never threatened to sue anyone!!!
However, he was threatened with lawsuits by The Discovery Channel.
This was I believe immediately before 'powermelissa' showed up on our board.

After the 'Spank my Monkey' episode, most all of the active members were very wary of newcomers----particularly when she started 'plugging' manufactures of go-fast stuff right out of the gate.

Always kind of leary about a new person that does not state in his introduction, that he is looking to learn something, or help someone else.

BTW---My name is Bryan----Bryan59EC on any board I visit.
My toys are
1959 ElCamino---454/Tremec TKO/4-wheel disc/AC/Tilt/PW
1966 ElCamino---307/PG (awaiting a Tremec as I type)

Did not mean to crash your forum, but that PowerJon is doing some blatant fabricating of the truth.

Bryan

wow.. guess you can't pull the wool over our eyes.

glad i found a good forum and a great bunch of guys.

I just hope the owner of Turbobuick.com and are moderators aren't falling for this. It pretty obvious these folks have been around on other boards and have very good marketing skills. I'm really surprised this thread is still going on to tell you the truth.

For the outsiders - The community here is very tight, and unless you have a legit reason to be here or offer are small community something legit, or for are cars for that matter.... You probably should not be here....

No pun intended, can we please just move on......

Raymond,
Honestly I think they had very BAD marketing skills and thats why they have been tossed out of every forum.

The Owner and Mods checked into this as posted on this thread. They either asked to see a package with no response or just politely declined then got spammed via email. and now they tried in this forum to basically spam.

The company in question is really just server side to host videos nothing worth raising any flags over but then theres some mess about all these puppet masters behind the scenes pulling strings which i could care less about.

As someone whos in marketing my prob was simple...it takes money to make money, you want to advertise then purchase a banner and if i am interested i will click on said banner and go have a look.
dont try and weasle your way through the back door to hock your wares.

Message boards are not for.....................
(hey guys I found a great site. Go check em out!) while maybe getting paid to post

And that started to become the issue on the other boards after they wiggled in, then the detectives started to follow the clues and now the jig is up.

I would like to see this thread die and for these people to just go away as well so if no one posts any more then this thread will slowly sink to the bottom of obscurity.

OOOPS! Did I say very good marketing skills:D LOL! Thanks for clearing things up, got up to early this morning, no coffee:wink:

your grammer and language use still rivals that of a 12year old. i don't know how you can claim that you are in marketing, as the thought of you writing a proposal is laughable.

sinistrv6, i'm not twisting words here, and you shouldn't come to farfetched conclusions. my answer was straight forward as we create video production. what i meant by home sites, is tenneco's company sites; their company home pages.

we run our video application for free to board owners. this allows us to add user content to our video network. with more content comes more users from elsewhere, such as that of youtube or streetfire.

it looks like you've turned from a rational speaker to another conspiracy theorist. please don't be. I have mcasteel throwing out fodder by mashing on his keyboard at every post, already. we actually work for the government. heretic was built by auto fans the next solar system over. we are not alone. :o

Mellisa has contacted us several times about adding us to there Power TV list or whatever. It doesn't seem as it wouldn't benefit TR owners at all. I am not in this for the money that is why I haven't added it..... So again Melissa, No thanks..... Most of your ads have nothing for our cars:frown: Not knocking your deal its just not for us....

Melissa

Its not enough that your company has email spammed the site owners here to death, now you have to come and solicit business by spamming our forums as well?

I woulda taken a look at their video offerings if they would have ever shown me a working vBulletin integrated package. I asked, I was told "Its coming in a month" and then nothing. That was over a year ago.

I don't know why they listed us...

Quotes above speak for themselves

Yes Jon I have been reading it all along and those quotes above from the owner of this site and the admin are telling you to go away.

I'm trying to establish the "food chain" here.

PowerTV works for Tenneco as an independent contractor creating auto-enthusiast related videos.

Tenneco (or is it PowerTV) embeds that video where, exactly? You say "home sites", does that mean sites like TurboBuick.Com - The World Wide Web under BOOST! - Buick Grand National, GNX, T-Type

Does PowerTV create advertising deals with the owners of the boards so that the embeded video can be added to their site?

You say it's a "...user driven program...". Does that mean that it collects data from searches and posts and presents relative advertising based on that data?

So the advertisers are paying you a little (by your own admission very little), so are the board owners paying you for the embedded video setup? Sorry, to seem so cynical, but I'm trying to figure out what's in it for PowerTV. You may have a legitimate product/service here but getting it in front of us motorheads under what seems like false pretenses is off-putting to put it mildly.

I realized I never really answered your question, I'm sorry I missed it.

PowerTV actually does 2 different things which is where the confusions starts. We offer our video player to forums and actually pay them to use it. We then run banners ads/etc., and pay them based on how much videos are watched.

The forums control the content 100% - we don't upload or add any videos to the player at all. So basically that would be like TurboBuick having their own YouTube and you users would upload and control the content.

The other part of our company produces online TV shows. So that's the issue that is being attacked, that we are secretly paid by GM, SEMA, etc. to post on thousands of forums. And that's the part that's untrue. However, we do sell advertising to our shows, and some of those shows have product placement in them. Now this where the accusations come in. Now, please keep in mind, only about 15% of our shows have any product placement, but this where the corporate spammers stuff came from. Now, this is the same as Hot Rod TV, Rides, Pimp My Ride, Payback, 2 Guys Garage, and just about any show.

If you want to check out a thread that really explains everything in depth, check out a response from the founder of powerTV Corral Forums

There are two sides to this story. This entire situation started when the founder, James Lawrence, defended SEMA when Jonathan Rubenstein was attacking the **** out of SEMA. And now James is paying the price. You can read about Jonathan's attacks on SEMA here
.

That being said, we are not without fault, but there is more to this story than it appears. Jonathan has driven a lot of traffic to his web site, and he seems to have a real history for attacking people.

John my biggest problem is the ads around the video page. Not trying to be funny but it reminds me of filecabi.net. I don't like the young looking girls on the page etc.... Maybe you guys could consider selling us a copy of the software for us to use as we wish:biggrin:

We PAID big time for a VB guru to do this for us and got stuck:mad: However that is what I am still looking for any ads on our video page will have to be buick vendors......

Jason and I met Jon and the PRI show while they were filming a spot for ProCharger. He seemed like a decent guy at the time. I would give him the benefit of the doubt and listen to his story based on that meeting. I will say to Jon however coming into someone elses house and calling them names or correcting thir grammer (does not matter if you are right or wrong) is not a way to make new friends in a very tight group of people like the one that exists here. I will try not to make an assumption about Mellisa's first post but Jon I think you can see how people would take it the wrong way. I pay good money to advertise here. I take offense to others coming in and doing it without paying and trying to make it look like they are my new best friend. Now if you did not do that accept my apology, but if you did please explain your actions and just tell us what you want. We are a reasonable group when presented with the truth and honest intentions.

Jon and I have ironed out our differences through PM, I dont know how i wound up getting tagged on this thread ( well I do now after reading some of my replys prolly due to me reading all the smear on the other forums, websites etc that got me all riled up) but I explained to him the more i felt like i was getting poked with a stick the more i poked back, its just the way I am, call me an a$$ I dont care.
In PM I told Jon I didnt think it was fair that what i felt was he had to come in and clean up a mess in any forum for that matter, meaning that someone comes in and makes a mess then they give him the broom? they had to have known in the front office that the sign up and greeting wasnt going so well yet it seemed like they tried it once more in here and that went over like a lead balloon.

I think what they offer is a good idea but also thought it was bad marketing to the masses plain and simple and you never have that second chance to make a first impression.
All i said from the gitgo was that it takes money to make money and if you got a biz then buy a banner then drop by and provide info and link here or there with the latest, thats just the way it is. people pay them to advertise and they in turn have to pay forums to advertise even though they are offering a paid service but them are bugs to be worked out.

But with the people in here, I for one would like to see this be the turning point for powertv to get the smear campaign off their backs and get back the credibility in the forums that they deserve.

Hard work pays off but it helps to be a little humble

i leave this thread on a positive note so please dont rip apart anything i said and force me to come and re-explain what i meant

mcastel,

I did get your PM and I totally agree with what you said there and in your latest post. I definately walked in to a house on fire on this one, and with the masses rioting, I put myself in the Frankenstein monster situation. I did the exact same thing you did as far as poking each other in turn with more strongheadedness. I apologize for the commotion caused in this thread, but hotrodders is putting some heavy firepower on us. I think the webmaster for corral.net put it best when he said that 'hotrodders attempt to spankhismarketer is in turn, a genius idea put in to effect to promote his own site. most people have never heard of that site until they started speading this campaign around.'

Mike Licht,

I believe you actually met James, our president/ceo at the PRI show. Regarding my actions, I came in trying to explain the mess (especially since hotrodders was brought in to this) through the 80, some odd, posts. It was apparent that the welcome wasn't warm and after a couple of rough words had been exchanged, it seems that fire was thrown upon the fire. In hindsight, that wasn't such a good idea.

Shane,

The ads that are being played at the moment on a site such as this would be based on google adsense. As it has been mentioned before, the aftermarket for buicks, at the moment, blows. The internet is something that can help remedy this in time. As Mike mentioned, we do video production at shows and further, and the guys we do production for look at our sites. I'm definately not saying that they will jump the gun and start making Buick forced induction kits, but in the long run, and time, it could help.

Again, I apologize to all. Let us start the New Year off fresh.

You might want to get Shane's name right:rolleyes:
