im dead serious. just let us know. im sure you get 5 or so of us togther and we could get alot done in one day

Maybe I should have a project kickoff party and invite you local guys over to help motivate me and help with some wrench time. Did I mention I have a keg of Alaskan Amber in the garage??

That's a great idea. I'd be there if you weren't a few thousand miles away. I love taking cars apart!! I know you'd get a good response if you posted a thread.

Do you know how to eat a elephant?

One bite at a time......

Stick with it. Trust me, I know the feeling. I bought mine new, ran the pi$$ out of it and then life kinda got in the way. I know I'll never sell it, but it is depressing to see it sit there. My son is getting interested so may be one of these days I'll get it together.

Well, I think I'll put a few $$ aside for it for the next couple months and start wrenching on it when it cools off. If I run into a smoking deal on a travel trailer I will have to push if off a few more months. The family comes first and going on weekend camping trips is more important to them than getting the GN restored. If I can get it completely torn down I'll have putting it back together to look forward to.

Keep the goal. Have a plan.

My deal was my son breaking his femur the day before new years eve. All the deductibles, traveling two hours(Both ways) to see the specialist(I'm sure it is worth the time and money to get the best doc) and the physical therapy kinda killed my budget.

I have been doing little things. I glued my grille back together. I'm also mounting the trans cooler more securely.

Stay with it!

If I had a house my car would probably still be in pieces. I wanted a stage block but due to everything that happened to me over last winter I ended up just building the best 109 I could for my budget.

Neal Steward (750HP V6) called me to catch up yesterday and convinced me to just get the motor running again and enjoy it. I'm going to pull the block and check it out. I'm either going to have my heads rebuilt or keep my eye out for a good used set of ported irons.

Stick with it!!!! It will come together in due time mine is. It is no t-type or gn but it is what i want when i am done. I have had mine for 8 years now and just got to stripping it in january! I am working on the frame outside now and letting the body sit in the garage for the winter work. The 1968 olds 350 block is know sitting on the stand and wating for me. Little by little if i get board on one thing i do something else on the other parts. Of corse money plays that part out. the paint on the frame is just rusolium paint. Like i have told the people that i know that it is not a winter car any more. So i dont feel that i have to go out and buy the top notch paint. Now when it comes to the body paint yes i will spend the money. The thing is have fun doing the work it is YOURS to BRAG about NO ONE ELSE   :p

Good Advice.... listen to me.

My advice to you - Liberate yourself. Mentally too that is. You won't regret it one bit.

Sell the GN. Get the room you need. Get the toy hauler. You'll love it. Your family will love it. You'll have more good memories. Enough with the $$$ on the GN. Snap out of it! Do the right thing & Get RID OF THE GN!!!

Promise you won't regret it. I'm one of the few people on here who'll probably tell you this. I'm sure there's a few others.

You can always get another GN. You can't get back time or good memories. Enjoy your life. Go camping. You have a small 3 year old and he'll love it, and remember the best of times to come.... include your family. Be noble, and do the right thing. You won't have a problem selling the GN.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I guess it wouldn't be a big deal if there wasn't always something constantly putting the GN on the back burner financially. At first it was college, then it was no money from a crappy job. Now that I make good money, I have a house and a wife and kid to support. The house is the big thing. We put in landscaping, a pool, and I built a really nice detatched garage to put the GN and my '59 LeSable in so I can start restoring them. Right now I have about $3K saved up for the GN, but I also have the itch to get a used toy hauler so I can take my wife and 3 year old son camping. I'd like to have a hobby that includes the whole family. My wife isn't big on the GN and my son is not big enough to really get involved even though he is a hard core car guy. I kind of feel that if I do go with a trailer, then the GN will be put off several years. I feel like I'm stuck with it for better or worse since I'm not willing to sell the whole car for cheap and take a bath on it. I'd probably trade it straight up for a 21-24ft toy hauler though LOL. Honestly summer is almost over and the trailer can wait til spring. Maybe i should just blow some $$ on it and get started.

Update

What have I done?? A few weeks ago I walked into the garage, grabbed the air tooks, and said BONZAI!!! LOL. I'm in it for the long haul now. I took off the whole front clip so I can repaint the whole engine bay and cleanup all the wiring. Nothing ever lined up properly anyway. I'm most likely going to lift the body off so I can repaint the frame and reinforce the center section. The rear control arms are already boxed with new bushings, so I'll do new axle seals (rear brakes are new), new body bushings (all of them) new front suspension bushings, and probably a LS1 front brake swap (whew). The tranny is almost new, but the motor is out and disassembled already. Check out my rebuild post and throw in your 02. :D http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/en...d-advice-rebuilding-my-motor.html#post1989428

I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

I hate to say this but you wil need to make this a long term project.
I know guys that have restored older classics like a 65 GTO.
they have taken 8 years to restore & then hat happens they sell.

You either face facts & work on 1 issue at a time. setup a allowance.
example: Give yourself 1 hour each day & then walk away. Do as much as you can yourself to save bucks.

once rolling find a local auto school or trade school. offer a donation & let the kids at the school fix the body & paint

That's kind of my plan. I don't want this to be a show car, just a good driver again. I dedicate 4 hours a week to my car. I'm also not expecting to drive it for quite awhile. Once I finish the frame / suspension I will get a baking soda blaster and blast the body to bare metal myself. I think I will be able to get my brother-in-law to do all the body and prep work when he comes out here from Austria in the next year. He runs a body shop and does fantastic work. I doubt he'll have time to spray the paint, so I'll have to find someone to do that. i will reassemble the car myself.

Just FYI, incase you didnt know, you need to wipe the car down with a vineger and water mix after soda blasting. The paint wont adhere to the film left beghind. You need to do a very good job at this. I have seen 5 cars that werent wiped down and the paint peeled off in sheets.

Update: There was no point in selling my GN becaue it was pretty worthless in the shape it was in. My Dad lets me borrow his boat every summer, so we're having some family fun in that.

Last summer I got the block machined, crank polished, Wiseco pistons, ARP studs and rod bolts, Champion Iron heads, new bearings, etc. The motor is still disassembled because I decided to tackle the chassis, suspension, and brakes first. In November I pulled the body off the frame and painted everything up. I put new bearings and seals in the rear end, rebuilt the front suspension with custom UCA's from UB Machine, PPM tall balljoints, S10 brakes, and all new steering hardware. The springs are SPC and the shocks are Bilstein HD. I also put all new poly body bushings on (including all the missing ones and GNX ones).

At this point I'm going to paint the rest of the inside parts, assemble the motor, and get it running by the fall. The paint and interior are going to have to wait a couple years since my budget is almost gone. No biggie. I will get to drive it and enjoy it even though it will still look like a beater.
