hey everyone just a question I upgraded my rear end this past season to a hr bar with metco uppers and lowers, I keep hearing that a snubber is also a good cheap mod what do you think, and what will it do?? Thanks

Using the stock one or longer aftermarket one depends on the suspension mods you may or may not have.

Keeps the rear from torqueing up.

Cheap way to put more power to the pavement.

I would think you should good with the mods you got. What are you 60's now compared to before the suspension mods? How about tires?

I have used pinion snubbers on my own cars with great success. In your case air bags would be a much bigger benefit for suspension tuning

Forget the pinion snubber. If you were to ever have it hit the rear end, it would just unload the tires. If you use the proper springs and shocks, you are good with the set up you now have.:)

With the HR bar, HR upper and lower arms, I am able to easily do mid 1.3 60' times.

My car, 1.41 60ft, 2 air bags, pinion snubber, STOCK control arms with STOCK bushing and NO boxing, NO sway bar, good Phoenix slicks, tires make a difference, this car was a handfull to drive but simple set ups work too. As soon as it dropped into the 1.3's the slicks would hit the front of the wheel well and ripped the moulding off at BG one year. Control Arms stop this. Sway bars stop the twist and make the car MUCH easier to drive and more consistant. I just hate to here guys slam simple set ups that can be made to work well without huge investments. Ask Jay Carter he laid under this car for about a half hour one year saying "it cant hook this good being so stock, I know you did something" :)

thanks all

Was just a question ,I've heard it's a good cheap mod, but from what i'm getting just tuning with my new set up will bring bigger benifits. I just got my hr and metcos in just before i put the car away for the great canadian winter that hasn't arrived yet... I'm tempted to take the car out of storage but know as soon as I do the big one will hit. So far I'm using drag radials, but might be switching back to et drags, or hoosiers. Also gona notch the frame in the spring and install a cage, So far my best was a 11.49 @ 119mph with a 60ft of 1.71 on the drag radials. Not bad for a high mileage engine thats never had the valve covers off....

It is always nice to hear that you can go fast on a budget.

I was always under the impression, that if youre actually hitting that snubber, theres something else wrong with the rear...

Jamier, are you using 28" drag radials?
Mike, what boost did you launch at and is a stall converter on that T?

Well, one common opinion is some kind of swaybar works.

That was an 10 PSI launch off the footbarke. The car had an original Art Carr 16930 converter which was the hot setup then. This is back in 1994 or so

Snubber

Call me crazy, but I have been running one for years. I also only use 1 airbag on the pass side with everything else bone stock. I am running 235 tires and just hit a 1.54 60' with an ebrake launch.

Who knew?

A pinion snubber is a waste of time and money.

Many vendors sold them in the past but once people started to notice they didn't do anything except empty their wallet most vendors stopped.

I have South Side lowers, stock uppers, stock rear and axles, had air bags but the right one has a hole so I don't use either, stock shocks, 28 x 10 x 15 slicks, and ran a best of 1.45 60'.

Not saying that's the best possible but for what I have into the traction parts it's fine.

Spend your money on better items.

It would be interesting to have some of those that have had success with a snubber put some shoe polish or similar on it and verify if it's actually doing anything. If I had to guess, I'd say it probably never comes into play.

Hey Nick.... can you share what the proper spring/shock setup is? PM if you'd like.

my set up so far

I used a 275 50 15 mt drag radial, since i smoked my 28x 9 mt et drags at the beginning of the season, rest of my setup is as follows 87 turbo t high mileage. stock block and heads tranny stock converter, te 60 ,15 row stretch intercooler with big neck, 3inch thdp with dump 2 1/2 hooker exhaust, 42.5 green stripe injectors erics alky street chip, razors alky system, rjc power plate, engine tie down strap k&n filter with tin man cold air kit , have a trans + and 62 mm throttle body not installed yet front sway removed, hr bar and metco lowers installed, best so far of 11.49 @ 119mph running way too lean on 94 octane and alky had installed a orange stripe 3000 stall but smoked my 2nd gear on my test drive with it not even 15 mins outa the garage, installed another rebuilt stock tranny was gona reinstall the converter but want to have it cleaned first just in case. + was the end of the season and wanted to run before the track closed down. Also have the s-10 cylinders to install with the big softer shoes 1st thing next season along with new valve springs and a new chain hoping to better the 11.49. running 25-26 lbs boost launching at about 5-6 lbs all my vac brakes can hold wasrunning consistant 12.00 s until the hr bar and metcos now in the 11's . was just wondering if the snubber was worth the cash...

You do not even have to put shoe polish on it with one good launch, you can see on the rubber where it hits.

A pinion snubber & 1 air bag is all you need on low HP cars well into the 11's. Unless you enjoy wasting money on fancy stuff?

nice mph

I'm just down the road from you. Haven't even put my GN up yet--I decided with such beatiful weather, I'd get all my spring mods done now, and get out earlier when the salt washes away. Brian
