Russia does not have more proven reserves than the middle east. If they did, they do not have the infrastructure to get it to market on any scale that would effect markets.

The Taliban was one of the worlds largest supplier of opium BEFORE the war also. They were also a haven for terrorist training ... not so today

Last time I checked businesses exist to make a profit, except those in CA that are fleeing in droves. Maybe Arnold can fix Gray's legacy.

It all went over your head, dude...ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY!
The taliban banned the growing of opium.
I'm not saying we shouldnt have wiped out the taliban, its was necessary. But what have we left the people with?
Why arent we dealing with Russia and Mexico? MONEY!
We've invested BILLIONS in the middle east.
Oh, I live in California...big deal...Are you jealous?

Read and learn:

JALALABAD, Afghanistan (February 15, 2001 8:19 p.m. EST
U.N. drug control officers said the Taliban religious militia has nearly wiped out opium production in Afghanistan -- once the world's largest producer -- since banning poppy cultivation last summer.

A 12-member team from the U.N. Drug Control Program spent two weeks searching most of the nation's largest opium-producing areas and found so few poppies that they do not expect any opium to come out of Afghanistan this year.

smokin'6, I give you credit for being involved in this debate. But you need to look at the big picture instead of snipits had from news sources. Ask tough, specific questions when you see "simple" answers to national problems. The fact is there ARE no simple answers.

We shouldn't listen to news sources? We should get our information for the unbiased world of internet forums?

Its simple, Im not Democrat or Repulican, Im not a Kerry supporter, I believe in free speech, believe our country's health care is a disgrace, just watched the biggest terror attack in history while Bush was at the helm. And, I certainly believe in people freedom of choice, the most important right I believe the Bush administration is trying to take away, just look at the gay marriage, abortion, and FCC fiasco that is currently going on. I want to say I won't continue on in the fight since as of last nite, some started to become personal, simply showing their immaturity. But with 8 months to go, Im not sure how much more Kerry/Dem bashing post I, or others really want to see in the lounge, we should have a political section started with all the post you guys are starting!!

I agree, this site should have a specific section dedicated to political debate.

Let me address your concerns one at a time;

No, not at all. News sources are about the best way to get information however listening to just one, or a select few news sources may give you a select or slanted view of a particular topic. Personally, I listen to many news outlets. Admittedly most are conservative but lend an ear to those on the left as well, then I form my OWN opinion based on a variety of news outlets that cross the political spectrum. Internet forums (for me) are simply a place to chat or debate the issues, not a place to GET information.

Contrary to what some may think, I too am not a Dem or Rep. However my personal views fall on the conservative side. For the record I have voted for Democrats. I believe in free speech as well and have yet to see this administration or Congress abridge that right in any way, shape or form. As far as health care goes it's not the federal government's responsibility to provide health care to anyone other than those on Social Security. Health care is NOT a right. Universal health care is SOCIALISM pure and simple. We as a free people MUST rely on one's self and not the government to ensure you're taken care of.

What evidence can you provide that the Bush administration is attempting to abridge "freedom of choice"? Gays have never had the "right" to marry. I have never read that right in the Constitution, have you? The government has the right to define "marriage" just as they have the right to define "driver", plain and simple. This issue is primarily a STATE'S RIGHTS issue to begin with. Individual states issue marriage licenses, not the federal government and it's within their jurisdiction to define who may or may not receive a marriage license. Just as they have the jurisdiction to decide the requirements on who receives driver's licenses, hunting licenses and so on. Again, a license to marry IS NOT a right though the pro-gay marriage crowd is trying to argue it is.

As far as the FCC is concerned you're confusing freedom of speech with that of freedom of speech on broadcast television. As soon as you start speaking on television you're now subject to regulation by the FCC. Feedom of speech is NOT absolute, remember you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theatre thus jeopardizing everyone's lives by being trampled to death. If you want to speak your mind using vulgarity on pay TV, R rated films, satellite, internet, public protests and the like you're welcome to do so. The 1st amendment will protect you. You have as much right to speak your mind just as the next person has the right not to hear vulgarity in public.

Personally, I wish you'd stay. Even if some attack you personally don't take it to heart. Take the high road and address the issues, not the insults. Usually when people resort to insults it indicates a lack of opposing issues and maturity. Let the insults bounce off thick skin and debate using facts, leave the emotion out of logical discussion.

Peace,
