I have a freind /customer who doesn't like that "hit in the back of the head feeling" of this TC. He also doesn't like the around town looseness of it either.
He's got a 6157 turbo with stock DP and elbow set-up. What's a milder TC for his combo?

2800 is a mild converter. If he doesnt like the feel of a looser converter he should consider putting a stock turbo back on and going back to a stock tc. I run a 9.5 PTC NL and i have absolutely no complaints at all about street manners. About 5% slip on cruise but under load it performs like a race converter. 3.5% slip at 134mph.

Which size converter is it 9, 10.5' or 12 inch?

Humm, we didn't have nearly that good of luck with our PTC 9.5 N/L first time around....9.9% slip @ 134, real loose drivin around. We know that's part of the game though, It'll go back a get "adjusted" like N/L ups are supposed to be dialed in......I have all the confidence in the world Dusty will get it right for our car.

Steve, have they tried to tighten it up for him and make it liveable?

It's a 10 inch lock up. I like it a lot,he doesn't at all. :) I have a 3000 9X11 billet in my personal GN and it's tighter than the PTC(around town, but rips when you stand on it). But I don't mind the PTC at all.

I told him I think he should try a 12 inch 2800 and that should be a bit tighter for his liking.

Russ, what blade stator? How much is it dropping on the shifts?

Steve, I had a 10" 2800 and it felt almost like a stock converter. Sure it's not a 3200?

It's a 17 blade. I'm not worried about what it's dropping on the shift at the moment. I know 6K @134 throught the lights is too loose. IMHO the "drop on the shift" doesn't nessesarily mean that much. I'll save the micro tuning for when it's in the ballpark. Picks up 27-28 out the back the way it is @ 9.9% slip. Our PTS 9/11 is that good unlocked. We're lookin for 30.

We haven't tried to adjust it yet and Dusty was saying in Reynolds tightening it up will be a breeze......:)

Agreed, 6k at 134 is too much slip. That thing must be really loose down low.

ya it is. BUT Rome wasn't built in a day  we will get a handle on it  really weird for 'us" driving it around without a LU converter. I can't wait to see how it goes after it is "fixed" to Melissa's wussy combo :p

just my opinion though but i think if he would put a 3 inch thdp on there with that 6157 its not going to take more throttle to get it going i think thats why he is having more slippage because of the stock dp.

I doubt this has anything to do with it. A larger dp will flow more and increase spool and tc slip imo

with a restrictive d.p. you would have to apply more throttle and torque to get the turbo to spool therefore putting more to the torque converter causing more slippage. j.m.o

He wants to keep the stock DP set up so it is what it is....in this case too loose for his taste.

The stock isnt restrictive at cruising speeds maybe a little at 350hp. But not much. Maybe a few hp and thats it. He is complaining about driveability while not under power.

Trial and error. Now you know what the "wussy" combo needs.
