Is this worth putting on my "T" that is totally unmodified? I'm considering buying one, but I'm not sure if this works best on a modified (bolt-ons) motor with stock plenum.

Hearing nothing but GOOD things :) .

Yes it's a good buy. Anything you can do to improve air distribution in your motor is a good thing. I'm assuming you have all the basic stuff like a scan tool, fuel pump upgrade with hot wire, adjustable FP regulator, etc. If not, I'd actually start with the scan tool and fuel system first.

No, I don't. The car is factory, bone stock. Down to the plug wires, and stock air cleaner assembly. Air filter, before I replaced it with a stock KN. No chip, No adj. fuel pressure reg., and No nothing. Even still has the factory exhaust. Like driving it off the dealer lot back in 1987.

I want to basically keep it that way, but was thinking this plate would make drive smoother, and wouldn't hurt anything (hopefully). Or maybe it's just a waste of $$ if I'm keeping my car stock.

Word of advice here...If you only do one mod on your car, just do the upgraded fuel pump...The stock pump was barely able to keep up when new 15 yrs ago, let alone now...And the plate will help it also...No one but you will even know it's there...

Ok, if the car is bone stock then a power plate is not what you need right now. You need a decent fuel pump first and foremost. Chances are the factory pump is shot to hell and the strainer sock is collapsed and sucking into the pump. Can you say knock knock knockin on heaven's door? :D That's what your motor will be doing on a stock pump when you lean it out due to poor fuel delivery (been there and done that). :)

Get rid of the factory pump and replace with a Walbro 340 with hotwire kit. Next, get yourself a good adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a scan tool so that you can make use of your new tuning capabilities. Once you have done the mods listed above and have the car running well, I'd get a Hooker cat back exhaust with test pipe (best bang for the buck), and a good performance chip. There are lots of good chips out there from many different vendors. At this point you should have a nice running car. Then you can mod your factory non-adjustable actuator on your turbo to be adjustable and can then crank up the boost a bit as long as you have good fuel to go along with it. Next step is to go out and roast some Corvettes.... :)

EDIT---- The one thing I took for granted is that your car is already in good tune. Before modding anything you should start here.......

Spring Cleaning

I guess what I'm trying to get at is...................if the plate is beneficial to unmodified, factory, bone-stock, untouched, unaltered car.

My car runs excellent as is (for a stock car). I have no intention or desire to add any performance upgrades. If i do change anything it will be the fuel pump as FJM568 stated. I want to keep any modifications to a bare minimum. Not even a chip.

Being that the plate optamizes and equalizes the air-flow, would it negatively affect my car with NO upgrades or with just a fuel pump upgrade??? Because it seems like fuel pressure might have to be bumped up a little with the plate, which would of course mean installing adjustable fuel reulator (don't want to do).

I would say in your case,I would go with a 307 intank using the factory wiring, enhance the tank ground with a strap to the frame. This should take care of any fuel issues you might have, then install a Power Plate for the stock intake combo. That should work pretty good.,but if you have a need to adjust the F/P,get one of those sneaky regulators with the screw in the neck. You can always install it and remove it later if necessary,or you could try a chip cut for your setup.I would contact Jimmy Testa for that one.Good luck.:)

Change your fuel filter. If its still original then its a more serious concern than the fuel pump. The power plate is a good "safety" mod since it will decrease the likelihood of detonation. That's a good thing. ;)

Good luck keeping your car unmodded/unchipped for any length of time. I think we could start a pool on how long that lasts. Someone lend this guy a Thrasher and start the clock ticking...:D

No one seems to be answering your question. The power plate will smooth out your idle and reduce knock as advertised. Those benefits along with the ease of installation make it a worthwhile addition to your car.

I understand the fact that you are keeping your car bone stock. I say put it on and see if you notice an improvement in the car. If not, and you don't like the fact that you have altered the car, take it off and sell it. :D

hehehe yeah no doubt...once you add a k+n filter and fuel pump then you are asking to get modded...it only starts with one simple mod and then you are hooked for life like me :) NEVER did i think i would be owning a te-44 turbo with 50 lb injectors right now looking to run 11's in the quarter!!! NEVER!

I don't know, maybe I'm missing something here. If the guy wants to keep his car bone stock there's nothing at all wrong with that. But a power plate certainly isn't stock, so I'm confused???

Before spending money on a power plate I'd think that the money would be much better spent on a decent fuel pump or a scan tool which are the first lines of defense for protecting your engine. The power plate is a real nice part. I run one on my car and am pleased with the results. I just don't think it would be the FIRST part I would choose to put on a stock car. Would it help a stock car? Sure it would, but personally I would spend the money elsewhere. Just my inflation adjusted 2.5 pennies.

OH MY GOD!!! Someone WANTS to keep their car stock!!:D Can you tell this group has a hard time wraping their minds around that one?! Good luck trying, but after that first mod, your hooked........

I too wanted to keep mine stock. Now as I take the factory stuff off, I put it on a shelf in my garage so if I decide to sell it that stuff will go back on. ;)

Mods = speed, speed = :D

I have seen the car. :)

I would do the fuel mods. plug and play hotwire kit and forget the plate.

Yeah, I have two of them, cars and plates....

I'll agree with this. I bought my car new off the truck and never had changed anything at ALL. Last year my tune-up turned in to about $2500 worth of mods. Once you start it's hard to stop. If you want to keep it stock, I would do the fuel pump. Leave the boost at stock settings and not mess with the plate.
If you plan to do any mods, get the plate, turn up the wick and enjoy.:D

It can easily be removed.

Keeping it stock..........

I've had my car since '87. he only thing I did was change the chip. I used a Kenne Bell 9006 stock replacement and it was the best thing I could have done. The bottom line was I couldn't afford to mod it. he chip made all the difference in the world. No one knew it was there but me. It even passed the emissions tests with flying colors. But...................... now that I have started modding I have the fever.

Trust me. Get a chip and fuel pump. The factory ones are crap.
