Hey guys, what the fastest have you went on reg hard radial tires(no dr, soft compound or bias ply). A track close to me is having a hard tires class for Toy for Tots in 2 weeks. Ran my gn other day best so far is a 1.80 60ft at 7.65--95mph not too bad for hard tires. Also this is on grand am tires 255x60x15

This was along time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

Hard to believe it was 5 years ago tho...

Regular 295/50/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As and a ton of junk in the trunk for ballast.

Memories....

7.35 at 96. 1.63 60 ft on a 275/60 BFG radial. Not drag radial. 7.40's and 1.70 60's were the norm.

racedoday

Well got to run the car again today, it went 1.78 60ft at 7.33 at 95 mph
i'm getting a handle on the way the boost is coming in. hope next week or so it will run in teens or better. this is with 19-20 of boost

Same here....20# of boost. If I tried any more boost it would spin around the 60ft. If you had away to ramp the boost in you could get away with it.

When I used to run my V8 S-10 at the track it was on 295/50/R15 Lee Radials, managed to pull off a 13.58@101 mph on a 2.16 60 ft. Due to the light ass and the extra power I had to ease out of the hole.

Yeah I know it's nothing exactly anything to write home to mama about....but for an all steel street truck in street trim and a very moddest 350 with a 600 Holley, a mild Crane cam and a stock converter, I think I did ok.

hard tires

Well got to race again today. change fuel in the car from yesterday, it was bad. put 112 in today and went a best of 1.71 60ft at 7.10 at 100.mph then 1/4 times was 11.08 at 123. not to bad for ole grand am tires. i added 120lbs of sand in the trunk. that helped alot.

That's flying on the tires. Good job

I never had an issue like that with my T plus.

Did you have anything like direct scan on the car when it was acting up? Maybe you could see what's going on with a bad MAF reading or something.

Keep adding more and more sand. This works on the street too:biggrin: . Ive used over 200lbs of ballast on the street with great success combined with VHT and slicks. 10-12 lb t-brake launches and no wheelspin at all. Battery in trunk. Helps a bunch cuz your taking about 30 lbs off the nose. and putting it on the axle.

diff

Well went today. chaged to 295x50 tires summit radials(hard tires) had a better 60 ft 1.67 but had a exhaust leak from the turbo to header. so the boost was not there. best was a 7.3's. but i know its faster with the 60 ft being there.

This is an interesting thread. I tried running on street tires (Cooper Zeon) with no boost launch. When the boost came on I started to spin and loose control. That was the first and only run I ever made at the track on street tires. After reading this thread I see I need sand in the trunk and the boost turned back to 20 psi. ( I was running 24 psi). My friend won the street tire points challenge with his S-10 pick up. Has a big motor and nitrous. He ran consistent low 7's in the 1/8th. Would be fun to compete with him but I didn't think I could do it. I'll get the sand and give it a shot next spring. Do you put the sand in the middle of the trunk or over the right rear wheel? Do you also use an airbag or two? Here is the track website:

You have to play with the air bag pressure on the right so that the rear of the car is level under power at launch. Then you know your getting equal loading on each side. I usually put 100 lbs in the spare tire well and another 100 in the middle of the trunk next to each other. The car will not be level with the air bag aired up when not under power. An HR bar, any frontal weight removal and drag shocks in the front will help tremendously. I wonder how much ballast the guys in FAST use? They hit some nasty 60' and 330' times for the crappy ires they have to run on sock appearing cars.

Thanks Bison. With all of the topics we have here, maybe we need one for racing on street tires.

dft race

Well went to the dragin for toys race sat, had a few problems to start with. Got most of them sorted out. I had changed turbos to a 72 gtq and here at the house i was getting 25# of boost so that would work for me. got to the race and all it would go is 20#. checked everything. The best it ran was a 7.38 with a 1.62 60ft. Well to make it short i got 2nd place. The other guy i had to run was pauls brother (peter rogoski) from southeast turbo he had a for ranger with nos. his lass pass with me ran a 7.03. here are some pics i'm on page like 5&11 and 17.NERVE Photography - RacesForFun@comcast.net- powered by SmugMug

also changed the turbo back sunday and it went right back to 25# and went 1.68 60ft and 7.09 and 11.09 1/4
