What is the general concensous on Plug Wires?
What Brand for least resistance, durability, proper fit, etc.?

My car needs them and I was eye-balling the MSD's but have NO idea what kind of plug boot they have?
I THINK it's a straight boot but is it a good size/shape for the Turbo 3.8?
They have 50 ohms/ft. resistance.
Lowest resistance that I know of.

Thanks for the input,
Bill

Can't beat the price from Red Armstrong @ Quad Air for $24
Here is there # (440)-235-3232

MSD makes a wire kit specifically for the intercooled turbo buicks.
they have the proper boot on them
they are sort of pricey

check them out here

Taylor 409 Pro Race Wire set. 180 degree boots/HEI style. They are .409 inches thick. HUGE! www.summitracing.com has them but they are not in the mag. You have to call them. They are precut for the Buick V6. Fits perfect and looks even better.

See them at my link below.

Stock AC Delco wires work great. $24 and they have a lifetime warrenty. Their also black, so they dont look gawdy under the hood. I've ran 122mph in the 1/4 with them and no misfires.

I have to say that im impressed with the MSD 50 wires-
now if they only made them in black or grey, then id put them under the hood of every turbo buick-

jegs sells the kit where you make your own wires to fit, just buy a set for a V8 and im pretty sure they come with different boot angles so you can make it clear the THDP-
thats what i did on the TTA-

The MSD 8.5s are now available in black. :)

SSSWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!

thanks for the tip, whoo hooo!

Just curious, but I thought the best wires were the 10mm magnecore with a lifetime warranty.

I have Magnacore 8.5 wires. I will not buy another set. Four of the six ends broke when I tried to pull them off the plugs. My next set will be black MSD wires.

I just put a set of Black Accel 8.8mm, 300+ Race Wires, (ACCEL # ACC-7040 or ACC-7032) on my TTA. They too have a Limited Lifetime Warranty. <$70 at my Advance Auto Parts Store, $58 + Handling via Summit.

Robust construction for boots and wires. Plenty of lube for boots. Plenty of boot to grab hold of when you take it off the plug. You cut the wire to length and crimp clip on the coil end of the wire -That way, its a wire length you choose, not too long or too short.

I put a set on my 87TR before I sold it. These are the ones for long life and good spark for me. :)

I have been using factory Delco Packard wires since I owned the car. Paid $28 once (since 1997). Spark started to leak from one wire last year. Took em back to GM (with my reciept) and they promptly replaced the set. Lifetime warranty, so any time my wire(s) go bad, I take em back to GM and get em replaced for free.

I too have had great luck with Red Armstrong's wires. They're custom length, and they seem to be made pretty well. Pretty durable as I have changed plugs a couple of times and haven't had any boots pull away from the wire, etc.

Magnacore connectors SUCK!!!! I have broken 3 of the connectors that go on the plug and they aren't warrantied, just the wire itself. Waste of money IMO. And they are only 2 years old

I went with AC/Delco wires....

First off, nothing like factory for fit and WARRANTY.

Lifetime warranty is cool.

Besides, while I was removing the old ATR's, two of the connectors popped off and remained on the plugs.
I believe that was a sign, huh? :)

AND...the AC's are thick 8mm wires in black with 100,000 mile durability written all over them. Cool.

My retired pop works at an auto parts store (for "something to do") so I get everything at "cost". Plug wire set? $17 Oh yeah. ;)

Thanks for all the input, folks.

Purists look away, but ...

Anybody make a good set of wires in red?

I sent my set of Kenne Bell 'lifetime' warranty wires back for replacement because of massive corrosion on the coil pack ends. No response so far (2+ weeks) and it looks like I may need to buy a replacement set. I really liked the red look of the wires with my red i/c hoses.
