Big deal if it has to go to the dealer.....

It still isnt a big deal since the people who buy cars like that can afford to pay it. If you live in a city and own one with a high mill rate you will pay $1000 or more in property tax whether you drive it or not. Remember the comment i made about saving at least $300/month just for general maintenance and repairs? I wasnt bull shi tting

You think parts are expensive for Buicks you say???
I just ordered a Limited slip diff for the E55,
Cost me 1350 bucks just for the Diff!!!!
and 180 bucks for a 180 T-Stat!!!
so stop bitching about prices!! :D

You PAID $180.00 for a thermostat!!??  Was is gold plated?? There's just gotta be a Chinezeee knockoff out there somewhere :D But ya know what they say, if ya can afford the car........................

So it's agreed! Imports aren't built any better than the domestics. You had me worried there for a minute. :frown:

Worked forever with GM parts. I have plenty of examples that would make your sphinxter pucker. Oh and at one time I was in charge of ordering every single part that came into the dealership. Lets see. Back in 92. Brand spanking new Viper. Spun out in the rain on I-80. Hood=$6,000.00! My favorites. Need a door skin for that cheap Jap car. Forget it. Got to buy a door shell. What's funny is that most of the time you could buy an individual part to fix an assembly on your average domestic car. Not on your average import. I guess the rest of the world didn't think the average ASE certified, born in the USA, technician was capable of repairing anything.

180 for a t-stat that's cheap try 501 dollars for a t-stat on a v8 passat electronicaly controled and about 3 and a half hours labor at 100 dollars an hour:eek:

I have a "pat" line when people pick a cheapazz car to death....

"You're right, this prolly aint the car for you, but its the nicest one I have in your price range. Thanks for shopping with me, have a great day"

I almost got fired years ago when I was selling. This lady was griping...on and on.... about some scratches on the hood of a $1000 car. I told her I wasn't gonna charge her extra for them...than took they key out of my pocket and raked it across the hood and told her she would even get that one for FREE!!!

She didn't buy.:frown: :p

The boss didn't think that it was as funny as I did.

Thats funny

I wouldn't think that was so funny either if i was your boss, but since I'm not, that was funny as hell...lol!!!

You obviously have the money so good for you enjoy that over priced ****.

This is why I stay away from these high dollar cars, yes they are nice but its just morally wrong in my book to pay extra for metal or plastic because it comes with a fancy stamp on it.
1-Are the materials on this specific part rare or unattainable other wise?
2-Did god him self put his touch on the part?
3-Does it come with a lifetime replacement warranty with no restrictions?
AHH forget it I am just a cheap fock. That doesn’t understand how anything works especially over priced fancy stuff.
I liked BMWs and BENZs
But I got lucky my older brother one of each before I did and after watching him pay $375.00 for spark plug wires for the BMW and $600.00 for a sensor for the BENZ I just turned away and lost all interest in those cars

BTW The price of Metal at the local recycling center is .035 cents a pound.
Good luck with your build.

The cladding on a syclone/typhoon is insane. Thats the problem with rare vehicles though ... thats the only time I have freaked on car part prices ---
That's no joke. Those parts have been insane since they were new and readily available.

I actually ran across a full set of NOS OEM Sy body cladding not too long ago. The guy was in a bind and needed cash quick. Had I not been beaten to the punch by someone else, I would have bought it up in a heartbeat & I don't even have a Sy/Ty/GT anymore.

I couldn't agree more, my friend just sold his Benz because he said it was $1000 here $1500 there, a tune-up=$500, screw that! I just want a car to take me from A to B, not a car to wipe out my bank account!

90% of the time you get what you pay for.

Doesnt matter if it is cars, TV's, Stereo's, Athletic shoes, clothes, or *****

That's why I DD a 17 year old Honda. Parts are plentiful and ridiculously cheap. Plus if I can't buy new/reman. then I head to the junkyard. I've been trying to drive this thing into the ground for seven years but it loves the abuse.

The real trick is just owning a car that you can work on yourself.

check with Autohaus Arizona. The Benz board recommends them and I use them. Never need much, my '99 E320 has never let me down.

My daily driver was a 26 year old Malibu wagon. I turned the key, drove it where ever I wanted. It had 164k miles on it. In the probably 8 years that I owned it, it got two tuneups, rear brakes, one exhaust, and a couple of other real cheap things. Cost me $600. The only reason I am not driving that now, is because some woman ran a stop sign. And it took an American Impala to do it in. I got hit by a honda/toyota/other import, tore her bumper up, and bent my front license plate bracket.

YUP! See the bmw in my signature? Nope. There's a regal gs there now. My window motor, 264.99. For a WINDOW MOTOR. Ya know what? **** that ****. You can have it. My regal gs would whoop the **** outta most bmw's, and is just as nice too.
I managed the local auto maintenance facility a while ago, and those volvo suv's, and new jags would come in, for oil changes... heheh. They had to take synthetic oil, and their capacities were like freakin twice what normal cars were... plus all these high speed foreign suv's had skid plates on the bottoms of 'em... yet another charge...
When I was done, their oil change was over a hundred dollars... Yea, have fun with that new volvo there buddy. I'm not gonna lie, I LOVE me an E36 bmw, (91-98) but they're just too expensive to maintain. The local shops charge around 60+ bucks a man hour. And they don't work on bmw's... the bmw dealership charges a 102 dollars a man hour in roseville michigan...
I sold it, and never looked back. My regal gs is SOOO much more fun :)

And for that age old, obsolete, worn out argument "you cant buy american, everythings made in asia" crap.... Look guys, we already know that. What the "buy american" guys are saying here is, buy american WHEN YOU HAVE A CHOICE.... Because before too long, NOTHINGS gonna be made here...
Unless we have a revolution, shoot the homos in office, and get rid of NAFTA, and go back to the way we used to be.

Can I see what a 200 dollar thermostat looks like? Thats insane.

I do believe the higher cost is SOMEWHAT justified. Compare the fit/finish/quality/performance/ANYTHING of your E55 to any "normal" car.....the Benz is in a class of its own.

But a 200$ thermostat is hilarious.
