its been in shop for two weeks

I can see if you don't have the time , money or patience where this hobby
could get to be a real pain in the arse.

Me I think the challenge is half of the fun...........

Where U located? There are board members everywhere that love to help out a guy (or gal ) in need.

i hear ya

just a bummer only 200 miles before it went down , hardly got a chance to feel car out before it cost me 2000.00

not much can be done on this except throw money and wrenches at it scattered trans and turbo went on first wot try ! oh well at least those two things will be brand new lol by the way im just outside of cleveland ohio by airport, if ya know anybody around here let me know as this is my first go at these cars and dont know anyone around here ! thanks:eek:

O the fun has just begun.... If it makes you feel any better it only gets worse...:p

Hey, to make you feel better............my new engine might have to be pulled out again just because the guy didn't ball hone the lifter bores!!!!! $4000 later no less!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, I got done with my build and had to pull the heads. They are at the machine shop now. Hope to have them back by next week. I can't wait cause then I have to look foward to the tranny. If you take it one step at a time it will all work out. How bad was the turbo? My stocker went south and the blades on the inlet side ate into the housing. This whole board is made up of similar stories so don't feel like the lone soldier we are here with ya!:D

I agree I bought a very clean GN . Two weeks later the headliner dropped and then the pm on and on .Hot the throttle and that makes it worth the aggrevition

wow

like to say you all made me feel better but now i feel bad for all of us, guess i need to sign up for more overtime lol. these cars really are cool ,looks like its gonna be an adventure

Doing the work myself gives the greatest satisfaction in my life. Of course I may have more time that some of ya'all.

Also I now have the best of both, buick motor in the chevelle :)

In order to drive these cars, you really need to be mechanically inclined and be able to do the majority of the work on your own, otherwise paying a mechanic to do the work for you is going to get outrageous and I wouldnt trust most normal mechanics on these cars at all.

And yes, the fun will only get funner as the cost of parts and expenses keep rising! I dont even want to know how much I have spent on these darn cars.

Don't feel bad for me...........I've owned these cars for over 16 years and wouldn't own any other muscle car!! There IS a learning curve as you found out the hard way. Sounds like the previous owner possibly sold it for a reason........hope all works out for ya, and if I were you find some local TB owners in your area for some help and support in the future.

You've just taught yourself the first rule of a TR:

Get a scantool. Understand how it works.

Best cars in the world- but they can also frustrate you to death........

I have done more work and spent more money on my car than I planned and it's not over yet! :D

not for the faint of heart

I gave up on them because of the same reason. Money pit and they sound funny. If your financially stable and can afford to check book race they are the car for you. If your content driving it for what it is and keep it very mild they can be a fun car.

OVERTIME? try double time...

no TRIPLE TIME if you want to stay ahead:redface:

Here is a great storey for you..

a Few years back a local charity Raffled off an 87 GN

They guy that won the car was 17 years old. could not afford the insurance and promtly sold the car. (cheap too..9k)

So this guy has the car now and he drove it around a bit.
Found an open stretch and got into boost.
The Transmission had an internal Suicide and the input shaft stopped
so suddenly that the crankshaft broke and caused block damage.

Guy ended up needing a complete tranny, and engine.

to the tune of just over $6

Tough pill to swallow being the first time he leaned on the car.

Oh yeah, and When I helped him tune the car (because the local engine builder had no clue) the powermaster quit.

Then the fuel pump went...

then he sold it.
