Taking my GN to the drag strip in May I will have unlimited test and tune on the Memphis 1/4 mill track.
Goal is run a 11 second Et.
I am getting drag radials Nitto 275-50-15 for the stock wheels
Replacing stock unjointed with solid cross style
Putting a engine restraint on it
Should I get a new rest sway bar or lower control arms if budget allows ?
Or maybe air bags ?
Suggestions ?
I already put a DS loop on it btw.

Lower control arms would be nice but 11s are achievable on a stock set up.

How much boost are you running? My first and only 11 sec pass so far was at 24 psi boost. Launched at 5 psi off the foot brake. I had run a few 12.1's in the past on bad tires but had to get my 60' down to a 1.6 and suddenly I pulled off an 11.83. A good 60' time is the key.

I don't see a reason to change your original u-joints unless they're bad. The originals are solid, non greaseable. Maybe put an air bag in the right rear.

Traction, a good 60' and enough boost and you should be good to go. Take the spare out of the trunk and make sure you've got at least half a tank of fuel.

Airbags. If you have the budget, the other stuff is great. A pass side airbag at 15psi will do wonders at the track and not cost much. It keeps the power from sucking the pass side wheel up into the wheel well and allows both tires to hook.

with the set up you have descibed, 16 to18 lbs of rear tire pressure is critical on those Nitto's.

Double smash the brakes really hard on the second light when you stage so you can build some some boost, don't worry about the light turning green, leave when you're ready and when you are at 5 or 6 lbs of boost, hang on and have a blast!

If you blow the tires off, repete the process and leave at 4 lbs on the next pass......

Best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking nitto because I like to drive the car on cruises and such so I need a dual purpose tire. I know the MT is better on track. I had considered the BFG they look more street than the MT and I had a set once on my TA that worked decent.
Stock joints are fine just thought they were weak.
I guess I'd have to inflate the air bag at the track and deflate before street driving?

I have 255 bfg drags for the street. Couldn't get better than a 1.8 60' time at the track with them. Had to pick up a used pair of et streets to get in to the 11's.

way back in the day I went 1.58 60ft on a bfg drag radial,49 turbo stock combo,11.58,with a 1psi leave on a 4.10 gear and airbags.i have found that sidewall is very important with these cars.

my bfg's are 255/50-16, short sidewall. GNX size rear tire. I think I went 1.83 with a 0psi launch. Anything more and they would spin.

So is a 255/60/15 MT a better choice than a 275/50/15 BFG or nitto?
I got a 1.69 on 275/60/15 mt and a 1.70 with 275/60/15 BFG DR in my old TA .
Ran 7.18 and 7.21 in the 1/8 at 98-99 mph but it was Pontiac 455.
I later on mt et drags went 1.57 and a 6.89 at 101 . Then this was a 5 speed manual trans car.
I learned after quitting drag racing I never did big enough of a burnout and I never liked the MT DRs. They were wildly inconsistent compared to the BFG which seemed to work well with a short burn out. I know ill probably hit the drags maybe 2-3 times tops and put about 2000 street miles on the car a year.

Thanks

Take the spare and jack out.

if your going to stick with the stock wheels, the 255/60/15 is a nice tire and did really well on an 11 sec combo.i believe its 27 in tall.the mt street radial worked well but if its a track only car the hoosier drag radial is by far better hooking and is much lighter.i have run all of them on various combos.

How do they look on the car I have a friend he runs the 275-60 and they look funny to my eye like balloons the side wall is so tall. Not bad but just out of sorts ... Never was crazy with the look on my TA either .., I think the car would look better with wide tires out back though.

the 255/60 looks real good, the 275/60 is 28 tall and I wouldn't run that tire on the stock gn rim.

I looked and I'll probably go with the street friendly Nitto after looking at them. The MT is very strip only tread wise I think.

Look at the TOYO proxes too, i've heard good things for the street on them and you gotta do a good burn out at the track...

I just picked up a set of MT DRs 255x50x16... My lil brother went 1.59 60 foot on a 100% stock rear suspension T....

I run MT ET Streets on the road, 275/60's. You CAN drive them in the rain but be a little more careful. If it's a fair weather car I say go with them, if it's more of a daily driver then Nitto's.
