Hi, I'm using a unknown companys cam 224/224@.050, its a solid roller. Please give me advice with what kind of a valve lash I should go.
thanks
Veljo

my comp cam

of similar specs calls for .014 intake, and .016 ex,
usually ex is a little larger due to greater heat and more expansion,

I agree, I run .014 and .016 on mine and is a little more agressive with .242 duration and .610ish lift.

Knowing how the opening of the valve would help with giving a rec. if it's a hyd roller with solids on it and aluminum heads you will have too much lash hot if you are using .016"/.014"

Is this for your stage II heads?

Where did you get the cam from? I had a 224 solid roller that I sold a few years ago that was ground by Cam Motion in Baton Rouge. If there are some numbers on the back you could try calling them for more info.

Not enough info, alum heads or iron?

Most solid rollers are .018" or more when hot. Cold adjustment will depend on the heads, and with an alum block, even less clearance when cold.

Alum heads, iron block, subtract .006" from the manufacturer's spec which is given for an engine at operating temp.

I have about 20 different cam cards for solid rollers, and none are less than .018", and more aggressive ones up to .025".

So. Iron block, TA heads,TA rockers, solid roller 224 comp, your in the range of 015 range ((cold,))

I am finishing that exact build with fresh TA heads and a 224/224 cam, and I am setting the valves at .012/.013" cold which is now ~70 deg. With your .015" lash it would be ok, as it is better to be too loose than too tight.

Should fire it tomorrow or Monday, so I will find out how it likes that setting. :)

I've always set mine at .012" cold and haven't had a problem in the past. I'd say it's a good place to start.

In my opinion generally on the track valve lash should be kept a little looser. It all depends on cam profile but .016/.018 or .018/.020 with iron block and aluminum heads. For extended street use I close it up to as tight as .010/.012.
It may be tempting to think there is extra lift available by tightening the lash but in reality the small amount of lift gain from tight lash yields a large amount of overlap and engine response suffers.
