Sup guys got my car on the rollers today and wanted to see if this is what my combo should put out. boost was at 24psi at its highest, and timing was only 20* in third. max hp ended up at 354 and 407 ft/lbs. this is only bolt-ons stock unopened block and heads. i think there was more left in it but i did not want to run on the ragged edge as this is just a weekend cruiser. next on the list is a ptc 2800 converter and a rjc 3" exhaust.

stock valve springs? Looks like it's done at 4500 or so. Otherwise looks good. Got a PL file?

Yep stock tc and runs were done unlocked and stock valve springs, yeah power is dusted after 4500. Might look into valve springs but don't really want to do the timing chain too to accommodate the springs.

I would say there should be a lot left in that car,

At RC's place in Nc, I dynod 379hp/471 tq @4200rpm with stock air box system, 2 1/2 downpipe TA49 at 25psi with vp110, msd 50s hotwired 340,and 12,000 mile unopened motor with TT chip and stock converter. The intercooler was stock also but bell mouthed. Exhaust is atr 2 1/2 duals.

IMHO I would say you may need to tune your combo more, there really should be a little more in it. I do not believe there will be more power in 3" exhaust change but who knows.

Spending time on the dyno can be costly, but does get great results, I gained 50hp and 120tq in dyno tuning with a few good thinkers guiding this tune. I think there is still more in my tune, guess I will find out later.

Sounds like your heading in the right direction, maybe add more timing????

Thanks
Bill

x2... I picked up 40hp and 100tq at the dyno. Drove to the track and laid out three 11.8x runs. Never been replicated yet too... Dyno said 387hp/428tq with stock springs, cam, and converter.

What they said...

Not familiar w/the turbo, but Valve springs, timing, boost and less convertor slippage, would make the numbers a bit more impressive!

Don't think the 3" will add anything to it, except the weight!:biggrin:

Valve springs, 28lbs boost, more timing and lots of alky. How much tuning have you done with the SD chip? 3" exhaust will net you NOTHING but a lighter wallet as did the 3.5 dp....

If you are going to make power with a car and not just putt putt around in it you need to make sure that the basics are up to snuff, do the timing chain and valve springs you will probably pick up more power than any other mod so far.

The 3" exhaust is more of a maintenance thing cause my hooker setup is all rotten already. And I got the do from that samballs1 guy a while ago it was dirt cheap. I haven't done a whole lot of tuning with the sd chip yet, but I had a Maft pro for about 3 yes prior to this. So I'm familiar with sd setups.

Dyno numbers don't mean dickk. I made 390hp and 450tq and a couple weeks later I ran a 10.90 @121.

You have a baseline to work off of now. so you can go back after you bolt on parts and see results. Go back to the same dyno also because if you go to a different one you numbers could vary greatly.

I'd do the valve springs and chain before I did anything else, valve float or a timing chain break will cost you big time. Then you can start buying the fun shiny parts:tongue:

You need to do the valve springs, where did you get the idea you have to do the timing chain when you do the valve springs.

i always just thought that was common practice especially with the stock cam gear being nylon.

Regardless of valve springs you need to change the timing chain. As the stock chain stretches the cam gets farther and farther out of time, not to mention if the nylon gear comes apart all those little pieces get sucked up by your oil pump. And just so you know it doesn't have to totally die to get pieces in your oil, when I pulled my old car apart it was running pretty good, the chain was stretched so far the tensioner was maxed out and I had tons of little pieces of nylon in the oil pump pickup. Afterwards the MPH at the track didn't go up so it didn't make any more peak HP, but my ET dropped about .5 in the 1/8th because it made so much more power in the midrange.

I've done numerous cars valve springs and never done the TC and have never had a problem, If you have the time and money do it, if you don't DO NOT let it hinder you from doing the valve springs. I'm sure there are TONS of people on here who hyave done Vs without a TC.
