This poll pertains to a motor with less than a 1000 miles on it..
I'm just trying to prepare myself for the worse.
The motor has no other problems besides a Low Oil Pressure problem " which seems to be enuff "

I would say the builder has no obligation to you.

x2

I don't know of anyone that would honor engine warantees to someone thats not the original customer, or if used in a racing environment.... unless specifically stated so in a contract.

Plus if this motor was already in a car that was purchased than it's bought "as-is". Maybe the only recourse you have is if you and the previous owner come up with some agreement to compensate you...but even then he isn't obligated to do so because it was bought as is.

I mean it would be great if the engine builder would fix it for free....but realistically I don't think it would happen nor is he obligated to in your situation.

Just my opinion.

X3.. they have no idea if the car had a minor problem and the owner just thrashes it because he is pissed off at the car  way to many "if's" out there

Yeah I'm just hoping to get sum kind of break. If not I will have a bunch of performance parts for sale.

Well the old owner did not mention the issue & yes. I didn't notice the problem when test driving the car.. But after speaking to the shop owner he stated tht it had to be a clearance problem. & recommended tht I send it the front cover.

I replied with I'll send the whole car, I have to be honest Sod seems like a very nice & str8 forward guy. But business is business, & times are hard. If the repairs cost to much to fix I'm just gonna buy another T.

Hope for the best, expect the worst and settle for anything in-between.

I don't know Sod and have never dealt with him but if he is a stand up guy and finds it is something he caused he should man-up even though he owes you nothing.
Good luck and keep us posted.

That's all you can do, if your going for warranty.

I bought my White Turbo Limited (Avatar) in 2001 form a good friend who bought it from the original owner in 1992. I helped build it.

In 1996 he had a great machinist do the all the prep and a supposed GN Guru in Jax, FL assemble it.

My buddy did not get what he paid for. The assembler egged the pistons when he pushed the pins in. He never cleaned the block before assembly. I'm not sure if we got the original heads either as they blew head gaskets constantly and I know the machinist squared everything.

I rebuilt it in 2008 using Wildcat Engineering in Valdosta. Mike did a great job and built what we agreed on. I now have what I paid for, a well built piece. I have some ignition issues to solve but it will run 10's reliably.

If your going to do it again make sure you really, really know your builder, and pay for what you want. Don't just let someone do it to get it done.

I'm gonna ask a question & I only tend to ask questions I dont know the answer too.. So nobody get on me to bad ;)

what could the driver had done to the motor to cause it to lose oil pressure I know you can blow motors , pop head gaskets , flaten cams etc. But I've never heard of the customer doing something to the motor to cause it to lose oil pressure.. & please remember this is only @ warm idle. @ cold Idle it sees 40-50 psi. then slowly but surely drops to " 0 " ..

I need a defense if there is one available..

could be a restricted pump screen, doubtful but you never know. pack it with vasoline and see if you have good press until it breaks down the grease. sounds like the gears are not clearanced right. run a heavier weight oil until you can get it apart. try 20/50 and see if press picks up.

Someone else had that problem I believe.

I'd search this boards tech. section and the "other" board as well for a possible similar case and the solution.

And the driver probably didn't do anything, but that doesn't give you a valid warranty claim either.... unfortunately.

Depending upon the time frame mileage and all you may get some recourse from a stand up vendor.

You will probably have to pull the cover first, motor second, and do a lot of the install/removal labor and legwork, and pay for parts.

Just internet guessing here however.

He's saying $2000 @ the most he thinks the guy wiped either the cam Bearing or the main bearings.. The $2000 is for him to pull the motor out the car dissasemble it go thru it & replace anything wrong.

The motor wasnt broken in & I know the guy was racing it @ the track & street racing....

$2000.00 doesn't sound too bad really for him to be doing all the labor of pulling the motor fixing it and putting it back in. Honestly though I think I would pull it myself to save money.

now heres a the key question ? I have a new set of aluminum race ported
Gn1's should I throw them on tht motor & get a nice Cam setup & call it a day ? I'm hoping this motor will get me in the 10's if I do so...

What was done to the motor at the shop? Was it a stock rebuild? Forged internals, balanced, compression ratio?
These engines will dip into the tens with a factory short block and a good tune with a cam and heads. The question is " for how long? "
I would go ahead and do the GN1 heads and a cam while it is apart and match-port your intake and headers to the heads but also take into consideration what has been done to the lower end as to how hard to push it.HTH

Until the engine is disassembled you don't know if it's worth putting those heads on. Do you know if the engine was built to take the 10s? You may have to do some updating anyway.
