I've never seen a turbo Buick spin less than both rear tires but, I'm being told that the G80 was an option. I don't see how Buick could have sold these cars without posi. My brother in law bought his T (with G80)new in 87 and from the first day he owned it and even now with 108k on the original motor/tranny from a dead stop it won't break loose but as it builds boost it will start chattering the rears and loosing traction at the top of first and then break loose sideways when it hits 2nd. One of these cars without limited slip must absolutely blow the right rear off with any kind of throttle. Anyone know what % of these cars did or did not have limited slip rears? I didn't even think that was an option I had to look for when buying one.

I have 100's of SPID labels in my files that I have copied over the years. If you've seen some of my threads about guesstimating how many T-top,Astro roof or two tone TRs were built than you know what I'm talking about. One day I went through my files and came to the conclusion that at least 60% of the TR's built between 84-87 came with the G80 posi option. I'll never know why GM and Buick didn't make it standard equipment equipment either. I mean it was only a $100-$135 option IIRC.

My T did not come with G80 option. Eaton cured that.

I've got an 86GN that's a pegleg- she'll be getting corrective surgery soon. I also had an 87 TType that was a pegleg...

They must be absolutely worthless below 50 mph with the 1 legger. Is the factory unit a Auburn or Eaton? In the ones I've driven/ridden in it acts and feels like an Auburn.

Both of my t types did not have posi...Just my luck!

+1 Same here for my current one and I have the original window sticker. I also bought an '86 GN new and it was a single track. Lovin' the posi much more so!

The large amount of non G80's produced was when the dealerships discovered these cars were in high demand they started placing dealer orders for the showroom/lot sales and since a lot of dealerships are cheap azzes they got the convenience options. Half of them probably didn't even know what limited slip differential was anyway.

I'm going to guess that more of the 84-85 cars lacked posi. I've got nothing to back that up except they were more under the radar, less horsepower, maybe more people bought them thinking less about their potential than when the magazines were doing more articles on them in 86-87 as the second coming.

Is that true with all non-posi cars?

The general rule of thumb as far as aluminum drums go is that if it has alloy wheels and no posi than it got the aluminum drums. Always steel drums with the G80 option. I'll have to look back through my label collection but I think it's impossible for any 86-87 steel wheel GN to have rolled off the line with the aluminum drums. I'm not saying impossible but if somebody wants to post a pic of their SPID label that shows RPO code J42 and the N83 chrome steel wheel without the G80 posi code than I'll stand corrected.
