I prefer the 66 myself. But I did have a 70 SS clone. Its all what you like not us.

Always liked the 66 myself! I sold this Chevelle to buy my GN. Wife was expecting and it had a 12 point cage with no backseat for the little one.

70 Chevelles were probably the best of all though.

I personally like any of the 66-70 chevelles...even the 71 with the single headlights. But my favorite is the 70. As is the Buick GS...70 is my fav.

i like the 66 and 67's and also the 70's.70's seemm to also bring the most cash and the 70 is all by its self no other year was like the 70.66-67 are the same,68 and 69 are the same 70 by its self and 71 and 72 are the same

Appearwise wise, I have always liked the early '64-'65 most on both the Chevelles & Elcos, or whatever years before the body change. I cannot qualify that statement with comfort, egronomics, handling, or anything else as I have never owned one.

old fart !!! 64/65 then 70 :p  oh by the way this is from a die hard Ford guy at the time  My friends with Chevy's had to park across the street at my house :p

Best

68-70 you can not go wrong all nice. and one of my favorites.

I used to own a 70 Malibuand if I had a choice between a 69 and 70, my preference would be the 70 Chevelle, because of the interchangeable parts with the 71 and 72 and the fact that the front grill is different from the 71 and 72. The 69 is a one year only vehicle, in that some things will not interchange with other Chevelles (body wise). Also the 70 represents a body style change. Unfortunely, I sold my Malibu about 3 years ago, in search of a 1964 Chevelle. If I had my choice to do another Chevelle project, like Wells, I relly like the 64 Chevelle. I actually sold my rolling chassis to look for a 64 Chevelle. But for the monies I received for my Malibu ($5500, no engine or trans), I could not get a nice enough 64 Chevelle (or Malibu) to replace my 70 Malibu. I'm sure that now that I'm not looking, they're all over the place. I most recently replace my Malibu with a 1955 Chevrolet 3200 pickup truck. The draw to the pickup truck was the same as the Chevelle, I wanted a first year vehicle. The first production year for Chevelle was 64 and so it was for the 55 2nd series Chevrolet pickups (kind of like the mid year 1970 Camaro)

Malibu SS RPO Z16

The grand daddy of the ChevelleSS was the Malibu SS of 1965 it was introduced mid year to show case what was coming in Chevelle SS 66 and was the logical choice to introduce the new MK4 Big block 396 with 375hp. This car they only made 201 and that 1 was a convertabille. Chevrolet played their Ace in the hole. The Z16 laid the ground work for the introduction of the new 1966 Chevelle SS 396 as a stand alone model.

The Z16 was a showcase of engineering all the Z16's were built on a convertabile frame to compensate for that heavy high HP 396 sittin in the engine bay, heavy duty suspension, front and rear sway bars, heavy duty control arms, wider Firestones. 4 speed Muncie trans., mammoth 11" brakes, power assisted steering. They came in only 3 colors Tuxedo black, Crocus yellow and Regal red. Very subtle identifying cues, blacked out rear tail light panel, Malibu emblems changed to front fender behind fenderwell, 396 Flag emblems on front fender and trunk lid. New interior appointments and all this new technology bumped the sticker price for a Z16 by more then 1/2. A beautiful rare Chevelle, liked to old shoe boxes.

ummmmm...showing my age here but I went to school in Miami back in the 60's... To say I was a die hard Ford guy was an understatement  at the Ford dealer was a mechanic that worked there that had a dark blue one... that car caught my eye !!!! then after 15 years I decided I would buy a GM product :p Had a lot of the mid 60 BB Corvettes but still have a thing for the 1964/65 Malibu's  I think someone here was doin one with a Buick Turbo in it... can't do a search because then I will start hallucinating!!!

"I can get a 68 for a couple grand, and its a ss396." I'd hop ALL over that, if it's a real SS. I've seen restored ones going for 15-25K. Personally though, I like the 66-67 models. JMHO.

This car is definitely a "project car." It will need the rear quarters replaced, then all the surface rust sanded off, primered, repainted, and the 396/tranny is gone. Hood and trunk has surface rust and is off the car, but is inside. There is no carpet, but has all the seats. It is also the 375hp option which I guess is one of the more desired ones. Its definitely a little rough, but that would definitely be one of those multiple year long projects. I dont mind not having the engine in it, because I would put a 572 in there anyways. 572's have a little kick to the name, 572. =-)

I'd like a '71 SS...!

I used to own a '69 Chevelle Malibu red with white (parchment) interior, which looked very similar to the one in post #16. Mine had a 350 c.i. 255 h.p. and a Powerglide transmission. The quickest I went at the track with it was an 11.45 (back in 1980 approximately)

But if I had another one, it would probably be a '71 SS...

Claude

I have owned a 68, 69, 70 ,71 and a 72 Chevelle. Although I do like the aggressive looking front end on the 69 I think my favorite is the 70. The handling in factory form is much better on the 70 as well. I would love to find a 70 with air and pwr windows as a project whether it was an SS or not without a power-train. A split bumper Camaro would be nice as well.
