My buddy has a 2000 TA for sale, that I'm thinking about buying.

What do you guys like and dislike about them?

It seems decently quick, though my GN is a second faster in the quarter, 12.7 vs. 13.7

The seating position and view of the road is way different than the GN. No cushy old-guy type seats in it either ;)

IMO the interior is pretty dated, looks like it's from the early 90's. Another one of my friends complains about the gas mileage, but it couldn't be too much worse than a GN, right? Also the insurance is double the GN insurance :(

I had a 97 WS-6 along with my GN and loved it. Although only an LT1, it had enough torque to have fun and it'd run the speedo to the peg...155. I swapped out the stock Ram Air hood for a Sun Coast Creations Raptor Ram Air Hood and straight-thru airbox and added the typical bolt ons. The 17" wheels and 275-40s made the corners seem much straighter than they actually were. I got dominated by a few LS1's on the highway, but from a stoplight I held my own. It was no comparison to my 11.40 GN, but if I were on a curvy road, the tides were turned!!!

PS, my mom has a 2000 LS1 TA and I have to blow the carbon out of it once in a while too!!! Have fun!!!:D

I have both an 87 GN and a 98 T/A. The wife has the T/A. Really no dislikes about the car. There are a ton of aftermarket suppliers for the LS1 powered cars, so you can do just about anything with them. So far, I have added a Ram Air hood, functional air box and SLP Loudmouth exhaust to it. Other than that it is stock (for now), and is still very quick. State Patrol clocked her at 93 mph....on an on-ramp to the expressway. The wife wants a turbo or supercharger on the car too. In the latest Hemmings Muscle Machines, they have a piece on a turbo that mounts back where the muffler would be. Sounds interesting, but I want to do more research on it. Would be nice to have two turbo cars. As for insurance, I have 5 cars with full coverage in the summer. Bit pricey but I store 3 of them for the winter so it goes down and I get ahead on payments. If you like your friend's 00, go for it!! A man can never have too many toys, right??!!

The turbo system yo uare talking about is the STS system. I have a video of the test car somewhere that I think you might enjoy. I alsomight be able to find the link from LS1.com. I was thinking of getting an LS1 and installing that kit because I became friends with a person that went for a ride in the test car and he said it was insanely fast with 12 psi.

There are a bunch of guys wit hthe new system running 5 psi and trapping almost 118 mph on stock cars. They are also making over 400 rwhp & 400+ rwtq with just 4-5 psi. She will love the setup.

If I can find the video, I can send it to you. I have a CDRW full of drag racing videos.

I had an LT4 as my last vehicle before my latest GN. It was a fun car but it seriously lost its appeal over night for me.

I have been into TR's for over 12 years and the appeal has always been there. I like f-bodies too but I still cant believe how fast I just started hating the one I had. My fiance still has the 97 in my sig and I dont like driving it. To low to the ground, bumps are felt all the time, the view is a lot different down there, expensive to fix, and a bitch to work on yourself.

I would say if the price is right then jump on it. Keep in mind once you take it on a road trip you may not like it so much.

My dad has a '99 SS 6-speed and my brother recently sold his '02 WS-6 T/A (he replaced it with an '87 Turbo T). Both cars are great - decent gas mileage, good looking, gobs of torque, handle decent etc.

The Camaro has the usual GM interior pieces wearing out or falling off. The WS-6 wasn't old enough when my brother sold it to have any problems.

I like driving them because of the all-the-time-torque they have. No waiting for the turbo. I wouldn't want an auto. I'm not sure I could live with one as a daily driver, but my dad (60 yrs. old) loves his and drives it 30 miles RT to work every day - rain, shine or snow (Blizzaks).

The WS-6 ran 13.3 @ 107 bone stock, the SS runs exactly the same. My brother's previous car, a '99 Z28 (non-SS) ran a 13.3 @ 106. They are definitely quick out of the box.

My brother says he misses his TA but loves his TR.

I've owned a 94 LT1 camaro 6spd for about 3 years now. Its been my daily driver and its a fun car to drive. Gas mileage wise my heads/cam/n2o and bolts-on LT1 got 14mpg city, and 18mpg highway. The insurance on it was pretty expensive, i've been paying $225 per month... They are somewhat of a pain to work on. Doing spark plugs takes several hours by itself. They also have a weak 7.5" 10bolt rear end.

87 Pete,

I've got a '00 Z28 myself. With a few goodies under the hood it ran 12.04 @114 on MT ET Streets. I drive it every day. The gas mileage isn't stellar and it isn't easy to do maintenance on but it's a fun car. My only minor concern is with the oil consumption problem which most LS1's have to a greater or lesser extent. I know this will make me sound like an old guy but the A/C and sound system are much better in the Camaro too. :)
