I just wanted to get some ideas on who still has no cage in the car going faster than the track allows. And what times are you running. I am going high tens without a cage. I have everything else, balancer, flywheel, driveshaft loop, etc. Just thought I would see just how fast some us are without a cage. I know of one on the board going in the 9's. I just don't feel safe at that level. Worse, I think I could just make it in the 9's. I hate getting kick off the track, however I do smile cause I'm getting kick off.

I plan on going high 9's - low low 10's , my mechanic has gone 10.5 with no cage. I don't really think i'm going to install one either, my car may see the track 3-4 times a year at most. I know there's a saftey issue but i will not be at the track that much. If i do end up going alot then i might change my mind. alot of guys down here run hard with no cage, your not alone.

Gone 10.85 and have been in low 11's for awhile

really depends on the track and your relation ship with them!!!!!

thanks JD

Its not just the people at the track. I mean, do you feel safe that et and mph??? I have been at the track all my life and seen some bad things. I want to be safe, but I don't want a cage in my street car. Just wanted to see how other people feel.

I wrestled with this one for a while myself. I caged a car I really didn't want to. BUT, after seeing what happend to Mr. Sullivan at Ohio I do not regret it. I still see the flip side to that as my street car "should" run 10.90's. Haven't caged it and don't intend to. Just becuase it will run it doesn't mean I have to push it:wink:

I fit into this mold as well (9's and no cage) Bird on this board runs 9.60's with no cage as well:redface: Just can't get my self to start cutting holes in my floor and my funds don't warrant building a race car that will only see the track once or twice a year. I just go on rented days where I can't get black listed.

SGRIM- from what I have read, that cage did not aid in the wreck. The cage actually stopped him from being able to use his emergency brake when the Power master went south.

Just a street car here, I have it tuned in around 20-21# boost all the time on pump gas + alky. I literally drove to the track, teched, drove up to the line and ran a 10.89 on my first full pass, no cage....its not a race car.

Sheetmetal is a lot easier to fix than brain damage. Sure, some of your cars may only see the track twice a year, but what happens when something goes wrong one time at 130 mph?

My thots..

exactly.
Going that fast without the proper safety equipment, is akin to buying a cheap helmet. If you consider your head to be worth $50.00, put it in a $50.00 helmet.
If you consider your a$$ worth a 9 sec run, without a bar, go for it...There's a new Darwin award presented every yr.
Anyone that thinks "Murphy" won't come calling, is sadly mistaken.

hit the nail on the head .. we drive Melissa's car every day !! ya it has a roll bar in it .. oh it's not a race car !!! it's a car we RACE and drive daily :p hey it's your decision about YOUR safety

I use to think nothing could happen to me at the track as I was only racing a street car... I got over that one fast!

Running low 11's without a cage is bad enough.
These people that runs 9's and 10's without one are just plain scary!

I hear what u guys are saying about safety but driving a car without a roll cage/bar is still a hell of a lot safer then operating a motorcycle. A car still has a door, frame, widows, etc.... to offer safety.

Is it safer to have a cage/bar? Depends? But the bottom line is some people are not interested in hacking up their car and having to climb over a steel/cromoly bar to get in and out of ones car or to sit in the back seat.

I think there is a miss conception that people have when it comes to a street car and whether or not it's safer to have a cage/bar in ones vehicle. It is NOT safer to driving around on the street with a metal bar located less then a foot or so from ur head. Unless one plans on wearing a helmut every time they go out crusing (which is unlikely) I would have to disagree with those who feel a cage/bar is safer for a street car.

Yes, If one goes to the track it is definately safer to have a cage around you. But one is also strapped in with a harness and wearing a helmut. Most guys who want to operate their car on the street want a seat belt, not a harness that restricts ones movement and comfort.

Even the padding around the bar won't prevent ones neck from snapping in two.

GNBRETT you make some great points! I also feel that the roll cage part of safety should be left up to the owner/driver of the car. I cant remember the last time someone else was hurt because the car didnt have a cage, meaning another driver, spectator, exc. The driveshaft loop, after market axles, over flow catch cans, exc. I can see because this sort of stuff can cause you to have an accident and endanger others if not in place.

2nd reason I say no to cages. I personally dont want to cut up my 16k mile limited production vehical that runs 10.50@130. All my friends with clean low mile, immaculate 10/11 sec. TRs feel the same way. These arent a dime a dozen carmaro or mustang they made a million of. You can just watch the price of your car hit the toilet when a cage is added. Your doing something to the car that is basically irreversable...cutting carpet and plastic, welding to the floors/frame exc. There's a reason why you see post of guys with alot of money to spend on a TR and 99% of the time they say "NO CAGED" cars.

Just my 2 cents on my expierences;)
