England earlier in the week runs 9.99. In semi-finals falters badly off the line and it looks like the #1 qualifier will be out. This car runs wierd. Little burnout, slow off the line, then flies down the track. Anyway, he's flying down the track and passes the other guy with a run of 9.40. Huh? Runs Cramer in the final. England's car is making a strange noise at the line. The tree comes down and Cramer is off like a shot. England limps down the track. Cramer wins again.

I think it was a 10.40 that England ran in the 2nd round not a 9.40 although he was running the guy that says he went 9.30@150 in TSM trim at another track. Here he got run down.

Hmm.. I was in the next pair behind them and watched the race and do not remember seeing a 9.40 but there were some timing errors with the track. Dave also had a slip that showed he had a 1.25 60' when he went up in smoke on a launch. Was a 1.7 at best. He went 9.99 on a good clean pass and do not think he went 9.40 on a race pass where he didn't get to launch as hard, the car ran strange and hurt itself but that is just MHO.

I guess that "Guy" was full of sh!t after all:D

The pass in question - England time slip was a 9.49 BUT he tripped the startingline beam with his rear tires. As such, he had a running start and was only timed for the last 1312 feet of the tack. However, HE DID GET TO THE FINISH LINE FIRST against **** Kerney (who beat Guy Robinson in the previous round with a holeshot).

For the record, Guy Robinson never said he went 9.30. That's a rumor that someone started and, thanks to the internet, became a "fact" amongst the internet-racers. :(

Second round, Dave ran 10.414 @ 136.88 MPH.

There were NO timing errors. On Dave's 9.491 run he left so hard he lifted the front wheels over the trip beam and the rear tires started the clocks. A 0.993 60' time verifies this.

This race with Dic Kereny was so close neither one knew who won until they picked up time slips. This was third round.

Second round, Kereny went 10.121 to edge out Guy R. at 10.179!

Sorry Dave, I know you did not want this public, but..........:)

I have access to all data from the class eliminations if any other times are wanted.

Please explain how the rear tires could possibly start the ET clock..
If he was staged (both bulbs on) with the front tires and launched, as soon as the fronts came out of the second beam (stage beam) the ET clock would start counting..

There is no "trip" beam as you say. The timer begins after the wheel rolls out of the stage beam.

It would not wait until the rear tires came up there and (re)broke the beams.. Only other possibility is that he staged with the rear tires..

:D

What happened with Roy Garcia on race day? I had to leave Friday a.m. I heard he went 9.40 at almost 144 Thursday.

The 2nd round 10.414 pass was the one I saw but I was incorrect who it was against. I remembered it was against someone mired in controversy but it was someone else not Guy. Sorry.

Roy was low qualifier in TSE with 9.490 @ 143.75. He spun the tires leaving on final round and lost to Bob Hinson.

I think he either staged with the rear wheels,or the exh etc was low enough to keep the car in the beam until the rear wheels broke it, hence a running start AND a false 60ft starting the clocks late, it happens sometimes, this is frequent when cars have exhaust that exits behind the front wheels, the 1/8 mile MPH and ET will tell for sure.
Great job on keeping things organized this week Nick, hats off...

I think it happened because of smoke. It also happened on a pass with Kent Rudbeck showing a 7.60.Lee Thompson told me that it happens sometimes due to exhaust and smoke .He said that at Muncie where Rudbeck races it has happened before.Dave England still needs to be happy with a 9.99 on sat morn and runner-up.Also hats off to Bob Henson for a great lite and winner of TSE.Great time this year.Weather was brutal for the cars but no rain all week. The staff .Nick busted his butt all week !I HAD A GREAT TIME

If he launched that hard, then I would assume it was smoke. I have seen smoke trip lights many times, just most guys wait for it to clear before staging.. (unless of course it rolled up on him.)

:D

smoke in lights

This picture might explain the low et posted in the semi final round of TSM. Dave just edged out D. Kerney but hurt the motor to do it. That smoke could have been steam from the headgasket that failed on the semifinal run. Both Dave and D. Kerney put on a great show as all the TSM racers usually do. Very close racing all week and everyone had a great time. Thanks go out to all those who make it fun to put on such a great event, See you all next year.

How fast did Bob H run? I saw him a couple times but never got the chance to talk to him or see him make a pass. Congrats to all the winners, we had a great time in spite of my door trying to exit the track at 180, through the Jersey wall......Didnt see Lee T either???? Working vacations suck!
