Your car has a Mass air, so you will need to recirculate it or else the car will get false readings.

The tials are great units, just make sure you get an authentic one because the fakes are prone to leaking. I had one on my previous project (supercharged dodge stratus coupe) and it performed well. Did not sound like those stupid srt-4's with the SQUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEK on every shift..... more like a WOOOOOOSH sound which was very nice.

Placement is really anywhere after the intercooler, and since you have alky injection, i would place it somewhere between your intercooler and no closer than6 inches from the alky nozzles.

I've seen people put them facing towards the front of the car and it looks pretty good that way.

I will be running an HKS ssq valve. I currently have it on the uppipe right in front of the fan facing the drivers side. I am running a FAST (mafless) and actually was considering having an aluminum tube welded to the maf pipe to recirculate but wondered how much of a benefit it would have over atmospheric.

Now lots will argue on here that you don't need it because we run automatic transmissions and its the sticks that when closing the throttle when shifting relieves pressure back against the turbo. HOWEVER, even though you may not need it when your floored, I guarantee you will notice that if you are floored and have to release the pedal and slam on the brakes for any reason, that pressure is forced back against the compressor wheel and putting pressure on that thrust bearing. (not good for the turbo). Lots of turbo places will not warranty the turbo unless you use one anyways. Just piece of mind to extend the life of the turbo.

I still though, wonder from a tuning aspect, how good an atmospheric BOV would work with my FAST

yea i heard many ppl with auto turbo cars say that..but no matter what what u look at it compressor surge is BAD.

theres no doubt that im going to run one this year.. im just not 2 sure IF i have recicrulate it back into the system..or run it vented...

my buddy runs a ssq on his dsm..pushes near to 30psi....never had a problem with it..and he runs a AEM...

our cars dont need to recirculate vented air b/c the ECM goes into dfco and doesnt add fuel when the throttle is lifted.... there are MANY MANY posts on this - use the search.. if you are too lazy...... i have used both the HKS SSQV and the TIAL - BOTH WORKED GREAT TIAL took a lil' more to fine tune but that is what i have on the car now. if you want i will post a pic.

No need to recirculate the air, I have been running it this way for over a year with zero problems. Buy the Tial 50mm valve, the 11psi spring is perfect for our cars, it references the idle vacuum and stays shut to 30lbs boost. Tee off the vacuum block or even better use a TTA style block and run the hose directly to the BOV.

Who welded the bung for the up-pipe? I just asked Jack cotton to do one for me with a Godzilla. After two turbo repairs in six months I am not taking any more chances. Anyone used the Godzilla? I do NOT want to sound like a ricer. I may recirculate mine back to the cold air kit also. I am mafless, FAST XFI. Thoughts?

I have a HKS racing bypass valve on mine. Its designed to be plumbed back into the air intake but on mine its just vented to atmosphere. I havent had any problem with it venting since the DFCO cuts the fuel out when I lift. It makes a nice whooooosshhhh sound instead of the ricer BOV sound or the compressor surge sound most turbo buicks make. Its mounted on the uppipe a few inches from the end of intake hose and clamps. Im planning on going with a HKS SSQV when I put my front mount on and alky on over the winter. The Tial units are excellent so are the HKS units. I would say get online and search out BOV sounds just so you know exactly what sound they each make just to be sure you dont get stuck with a sound you cant stand.

awesome..thanks..im not looking for ppl to say "you dont need one" or.."i dont run one"

im looking for good advice for the above questions..

thank you

sorry about that. I had a tial 50mm on my turbo C5 and loved it. Sounded great and worked flawlessly. I had it mounted on the intercooler. Cheers.

I had a fabricator local to me weld the flange on, pretty sure you will not have any problems venting and using an XFI. The Godzilla is a serious unit and should work well. Were the turbo repairs to your 66BB? What was the problem?

Yes the turbo repairs were on my Turbonetics CPT 66 bb. Both times have been bearing-play. I did not get any explanation from Turbonetics for the failure. I do run it hard on the street at 27-28 lbs and when I let off quickly I get serious snort. I am quite happy with Turbonetics warranty as they have picked it up from my house and sent it back for free. It is back at Turbonetics currently for repair. I am looking at getting the GT-K 850 now and want to put the Godzilla on as peace-of-mind. If Turbonetics sees a reason to have one installed that is good enough for me.

I do not run a bov, but if I did, I would for sure plumb it back in before the maf. this would keep it from falling on its face when barely letting off the gas a little. I have a buddy who runs one, its not plumbed back in and when I let off the gas just a tad, it falls flat till it builds boost again. just my .02$

Plenty of BOVs with weak springs and poor quality that open to early or with little boost causing problems. You get what you pay for...just like any other part for our cars.

great thanks guys...

youve all been really helpfull.

ill be ording the 50mm this week

just remember [before you install] lubricate the viton ring with electrical grease and verify spring pressure/opening closing times with a mity-vac.... i had to use some shims to get the perfect spring rate... if its NOT setup right before you install you WILL experience some driving issues..... HTH

Been running a vented to atm HKS BOV since 1997.. The "reference" line is tied in to the vac block - I get immediate venting when I let off the go pedal.. ..No problems.. I keep the spring cranked down a bit to prevent part-throttle opening of the BOV.. The whoop-PSSSSSHHHHHHH sound is addicting.... kinda freaks people out, esp. the "kids" who think the car is either a Monte SS or.. NOT turbocharged........

I had to make my own flange since the BOV didn't come with one, but it was pretty straightforward - mounted it to the uppipe, about halfway up..

I have an HKS SSQV vented to the atmosphere and it works fine. Not recirculated and no stumble when you get off the gas.

It's a lot more enjoyable to hear the BOV go off than hear your turbo getting it's butt kicked by surge.
