[ The only change (difference) I would make is to switch the tach and speedo but that's the way I always set up my dash./QUOTE]

I think it would be easier with an electric speedo but I used a mechanical one and the way the cable is routed thru the duct work, it would have too much of a weird bend to move over to that spot. The hole thru the duct work was already there from the old AVC dash and I wasn't about to make another one.:)
Besides in the quest for replicating a GNX dash thats where ASC put it.;)

Looks great. Exactly what I've been looking for. I have a bunch of gauges in pod that I can't see because they're not directly in front of me. BTW, what VDO series are these? Cockpit or Vision or what?

I bet if you can make some more of these for a reaonable price, you'll have several orders right away.;)

Custom.

Speedo and Tach are cockpit, all small gauges are vision. Glass faces were removed and needles redone in white then glass was replaced. The adjustable needle on the tach was removed altogether. Cockpit series gauges are not known for being particularly bright when illuminated so an additional bulb was put in the back of the speedo ( see post #7 ) tach lighting seemed ok so that remained unchanged. I have a speedo and tach in vision series but I prefer a mechanical speedo, it the vision one I have only goes to 120mph. The small gauges were done with vision series which illuminate thru the dial. Being small it makes them much easier to read at night. Vdo doesn't make a vacuum / boost combo gauge in cockpit series anyway. I left the boost needle red just for contrast / effect.

Matt,

Your dash looks great!

I'm in Tiverton and would also like to see it some time once the snow disappears.

Looks you have a money maker.

Two thumbs up!

A VERY nice job. Who cares what kind of gauges your used ;)

Gnx Dash

:) RI-MATT have you thought anymore about making and selling the dash like you put in your car? would really like to have one!!!! thanks

GNX dash

Matt,

Excellent job! Your teasing me a little. Those look to be VDO Cockpit gauges with the needles painted white. My GN has the same dash installed back when Kenne Bell made them with the same gauges however the needles are red as usual. I did change the boost gauge from the original 0 - 30 boost to the one you have with the vacuum/boost read out. As for placement, the lay out you have copies the GNX, which is how I have left it on my car. I personally think it makes more sense to switch the placement of the oil pressure and fuel gauges since the oil pressure gauge hides behind the steering wheel for me. Anyway, thanks for sharing. Now, tell me, how difficult was it to disassemble the gauges to paint the needles white. I'd love to know.

InHock,
Sorry at this time I don't have any plans to sell / build any. The problem has always been the wiring harness. I read that John at Caspers is looking into making a harness. If that happens then rest is actually pretty easy.

nwarky,
Thanks for the compliment.
Doing the needles in white isn't hard at all, just takes time. Obviously the gauges have to be removed from the dash. Then carefully pry the gauge bezel off from the backside with a very small flathead screwdriver. Remove the glass, and paint the needles. Then put it all back together. Just be careful when you work the bezel back on and crimp it. Once the gauges are reinstalled in the dash you can't see any evidence that it was modified.
If you check out my photo gallery on here you can see my old dash setup, which was like the Kenne Bell one. What I didn't like was looking thru the plexi glass plate to see the gauges, also the directional / hi beam indicators looked like an afterthought. The GNX setup doesn't have that, the only glass is on the face of the gauge so you don't have the double reflection and the directionals are only visable when lit. As for the placement of the oil / fuel that was only done to replicate the GNX, so far it hasn't bothered me.

Looks great Matt!

Where did you get all the parts from? Reason I ask, I currently have the AVC setup and I too don't like looking through the Plexi Glass.

If you could send me some info on what I need to purchase to make the change I could start on it.

TIA!

Dannyo,

Look above... Post number 18

If you have the AVC Cluster your half done already. If you need any tips shoot me an email.

Matt

The dash came out real nice. I am also modifying an older AVC currently. Do you have any additional pictures of the GNX Instrument Cluster Bezel. Perhaps to show it from the side and back. I have a model worked up but would appreciate any additional input and on how deep or slanted the gauge holes are.

Regards,
Lance

Lance,
Sorry I don't, Joe Harrington ( GNXGuy ) had a few pics on his site that had a back view of the bezel.
Also keep in mind the depth of the AVC cluster is different than the GNX cluster ( gauges are set back further with AVC ) Unless you are going to use the GNX gauge mounting plate, the bezel depth won't be the same. The depth of the bottom of the bottom small gauge is only about a 1/4" where as the top of the top small gauge is about 1" . Clear as mud? :)

Matt

Thanks. It was plenty clear, especially when you have the dash sitting on a work bench.
