Plenty of us have blown hg's and I read that it really messes up the bearings, but how many people replace the bearings? How do you know if you need to replace the bearings?

If anti-freeze ends up in the oil pan and sits in the bearings, they are shot. The anti-freeze eats the bearing material.

At a minimum most drop the pan to clean out the fiber that many head gaskets have in them. Otherwise it clogs the oil pump pickup and the bearings go away from starvation.

If you have good oil pressure are you ok then?

If the oil had a lot of antifreeze in it and the engine was run hard the bearing alloy start to come off. Most of the times the reason for the blown head gaskets does heavy damage to the rod bearings and twists the rods. If the engine is
Making 100+hp per hole and it detonates it's
Doing a lot of damage.

detonation at higher hp does do damage to more than just the gasket
its a good idea on a built up motor especially when its on cometic or steel gaskets to check the rod bearings on the cylinder that blew

Possibly, if the head gasket uses fiber in it and it blew into the lifter valley, then odds are the engine will lose oil pressure. It may take some time for the fibers to find their way to the pan and clog the pickup.

If the gasket(s) blew between cylinders or toward the outside of the engine, or are a MLS or shim gasket, then no problem in this area.

So something like this, i had no antifrezee on oil. Just changed the gasket..u think i should of checked the bearings?

Change gaskets. Nothing else is needed. Find out detonation source

Yes fel pro 9941's i belive..n no #4? Lol.. Corrected. ...is all gud now. Tho. Hey jason i tho u wanted to go to the track?

thats actually the bottom and its #4

and it looks liek it started to push toward the valley , did you loose any of the gasket graphite in that location ?.. if you did its in the pan and on the pickup screen

if you had antifreeze in the motor and didnt flush it out with water before tearing it apart its hard not to get coolant into the motor so its always a good idea to drop the pan and make sure its clean and free of any antifreeze as well as any debris from the gasket or even a failing or previous replaced nylon timing gear , just draining the oil from the drain plug wont get it done

Well i didnt have any antifreeze in there. Or any that i can see. I changed the oil run it for a bit and changed it again... Is been over a month done a few track passes an so far so gud, gud oil pressure n temp stays under 190.. N no i dont think any graphite was lost. Or i hope.

I wanted to, but it would be a bad choice until I figure out this fuel issue. I think I would be all right, but it would suck to find out I wasn't.

Coo, let see for next weekend. Im going for sure next weekend. Hope u b ready by then..

Eh, if I lower the boost and don't see much correction with the powerlogger I should be ok. Just gotta make a couple 1/8 miles before going all out. Then again I might have the same answer next week ;). It probably isn't a good move to go to the track when there is something funny going on with the fuel system, but then again a couple runs there might help diagnose the problem :confused::confused: :D

It is call test and tune.. So maybe u can figure crap out over there. Damn e85 ppl. Cant run normal fuel like the rest of us.. Lol..
